The best area to stay in Palisades is along the western shore of Palisades Reservoir, particularly near the communities of Palisades and Irwin.

This region offers direct access to the reservoir's activities and provides a good balance of amenities and natural beauty. The main road, US-26, runs parallel to the shore, making it easy to get around. You'll find a selection of lodges and cabins, many with direct reservoir views or access to boat ramps.

For families, staying near the Palisades Dam or the Irwin Bridge area is ideal. These spots often have calmer waters for swimming and kayaking, and there are designated picnic areas and easy access to gentle hiking trails. Some accommodations here include facilities like outdoor play areas and communal fire pits, superb for evening gatherings.

Couples looking for a more secluded experience might prefer properties further north or south along the reservoir's western edge, away from the main access points.

The best time to visit Palisades is generally between late May and early October for pleasant weather and full access to outdoor activities.

For those looking for warmer weather and long days for water sports and hiking, July and August are ideal. If you prefer cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and the beauty of autumn colours, late September and early October are excellent. The fishing remains good, and hiking trails offer stunning views of the changing foliage.
