« Only stayed for one night but will certainly be back, the hotel is an old coaching inn from the 1800’s and if you are looking for a bland, anonymous place it’s not for you, quiet, friendly, warm and comfortable with character and quirks, my room had a 10” thick mattress ( i’m sad, i measured it ) with very good quality bedding that gave me a superb night’s sleep and even a settee to lounge on while i watched the good sized tv, views out of my windows were of Lickey forest. The kitchen was not...

« Venu pour un WE pour voir des matchs de foot, l’hôtel a coché tout nos critères. Idéalement situé en centre-ville, nous avions seulement 10min de marche pour aller en centre ville et rejoindre la gare. À notre plus grande surprise, nous avons pu récupérer la chambre dès 10H, après avoir atterri assez tôt alors que nous pensions juste pouvoir déposer nos bagages. Tout a été parfait, le confort de la chambre, le p’tit déjeuner plutôt complet, compris dans le prix de la chambre et le prix, environ...

Petit déjeuner complet impeccable avec des produits du terroir de grande qualité et tout ça dans une salle adorable exhumant l’atmosphère Shakespearienne à 100%. Terrasse fleurie comme dans un conte de fée et très bien entretenue ( un petit jardin anglais au coeur de la ville ). Seule critique: l’ascenseur ne fonctionnait pas depuis quelques semaines, mais ce défaut a été compensé par une boisson au choix dans le bar. Le vin blanc...

« Exceptional - the attention to detail was amazing. Bedroom, service, food and drinks were first class. The hotel is immaculate and quirky with many added extras like a games room with record player and records, a boot room, a bar with fires. Unfortunately the restaurants were fully booked - so book them early! I will definitely stay there again and can recommend this hotel most highly x »

![The Cathedral was built between 1956 and 1962 and was designed by Sir Basil Spence, following the destruction of the old mediaeval Cathedral in 1940 through enemy bombing. It was decided to build the new Cathedral adjacent to the old one, which was left in its semi-ruined state with its undamaged 14th century tower. It would in fact be the third Cathedral in Coventry, as this had been a religious site for nearly 1000 years. There was a competition for the design which was won by the Scottish architect Basil Spence. The unorthodox design was intended to be "a casket of jewels" and contains many works from famous artists. The Cathedral was consecrated on 25 May 1962. The Cathedral was built at right angles to the old one, and therefore aligns north-south. It is built in red Hollington sandstone with green slate cladding and a concrete roof. There is a nave of seven bays, although the aisles are full height, with slender piers tapering at the base. They rise to a concrete ribbed canopy with timber between the ribs. There is no clerestory. The nave walls are angled in a sawtooth fashion with tall stained-glass windows. The nave and chancel are as one. The (liturgical) west end has a fully glazed wall with engraved figures of saints and angels by John Hutton. The (liturgical) east wall has no window, but is dominated by a large tapestry of Christ in Glory by Graham Sutherland. There are two chapels, one to the north east (The Chapel of Christ the Servant) and one to the south west (The Chapel of Unity). The baptistery area to the south east has a full height slightly curved window with closely spaced mullions containing nearly 200 small windows. It was designed by John Piper and painted by Patrick Reyntiens. The font is made with a boulder from near Bethlehem. On the exterior wall is a sculpture by Epstein of Saint Michael and Lucifer. The low roof is crowned by a metal fleche topped by a cross. The organ is by Harrison and Harrison, divided in galleries either side of the altar. There is an open western (southern) porch linking the two cathedrals. There are also lower levels to the Cathedral with further display and administration rooms. There is also an attached cafe. There are two chapels, one to the north east (The Chapel of Christ the Servant) and one to the south west (The Chapel of Unity). The baptistery area to the south east has a full height slightly curved window with closely spaced mullions containing nearly 200 small windows. It was designed by John Piper and painted by Patrick Reyntiens. The font is made with a boulder from near Bethlehem. On the exterior wall is a sculpture by Epstein of Saint Michael and Lucifer. The low roof is crowned by a metal fleche topped by a cross. The organ is by Harrison and Harrison, divided in galleries either side of the altar. There is an open western (southern) porch linking the two cathedrals. There are also lower levels to the Cathedral with further display and administration rooms. "Venu pour un WE pour voir des matchs de foot, l’hôtel a coché tout nos critères. Idéalement situé en centre-ville, nous avions seulement 10min de marche pour aller en centre ville et rejoindre la gare. À notre plus grande surprise, nous avons pu récupérer la chambre dès 10H, après avoir atterri assez tôt alors que nous pensions juste pouvoir déposer nos bagages. Tout a été parfait, le confort de la chambre, le p’tit déjeuner plutôt complet, compris dans le prix de la chambre et le prix, environ 150€ pour 2 nuits. Rapport qualité prix au top compte tenu de la localisation."

"Pour moi le point le plus positif a été le très bon accueil de la part du personnel qui est très prévenant. L’appartement est bien équipé, fonctionnel, propre, une buanderie est à disposition ( a prix très raisonnable) et la bagagerie sécurisée est gratuite A moins de cinq minutes il y a une supérette, en un quart d’heure on arrive à pied dans le centre ville, en un quart d’heure on est à lArena et en cinq minutes on peut profiter du canal pour une ballade. Pour mon prochain séjour à Birmingham je repasserai par cet établissement Ne changez rien !"
