These hoodoos began their formation 12 million years ago, when molten lava flowing over the earth’s surface cooled in flat basalt layers over older layers of ash and rock. The Ice Age followed, and when the ice mass receded, melt-water streams eroded the valley below Pinnacles Park. The hoodoos are formed from the effects of this natural erosion and weathering. The basalt is eroded away, revealing the more resistant ash layer, and often producing vivid bands of color as individual basalt layers are removed. The hoodoos at Pinnacles Provincial Park are fragile, since they are still undergoing these forces of erosion and weathering. I find when I book through a third party the hotel gives you a less desirable room. I stayed with my dad the night before in a room my mom and I booked directly with the hotel and it was great on the third floor. The next night I booked through Expedia and the room was on the main level, at the very back of the hotel, it smelled, was loud because it was next to a utility room and a busy street. It was also on the same floor as those who like to smoke weed and had a dog that wouldn’t quit barking. The door to the patio in my room had broken blinds which required me to hang a blanket over for privacy and to block the light. I will book directly with hotel in the future should I need to stay again. It is super convenient to have the kitchen and be so close to the hospital. The staff are always wonderful too.
