Old Town is the heart of Greenwood, known for its well-preserved Victorian buildings and a welcoming, walkable environment. Main Street is lined with independent shops, art galleries, and a variety of dining options, from casual cafes to more refined restaurants. You'll also find the historic Greenwood Opera House here, which hosts regular performances.

Couples often find Old Town ideal for a romantic getaway. The area offers charming boutique hotels, opportunities for leisurely strolls, and a selection of cosy eateries great for an evening out. Its central location also means many attractions are within easy reach.

For travellers looking for a more relaxed and quiet setting, the residential areas just a short walk from Old Town, towards the river, offer a pleasant alternative.

The best time to visit Greenwood is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is most pleasant for outdoor activities.

Spring in Greenwood brings mild temperatures, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, with blooming wildflowers and lush greenery. This period is ideal for hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the area, such as the numerous trails in the nearby Eldorado National Forest. The American River, which runs close to Greenwood, is also at a good level for white-water rafting during these months, offering exciting experiences for active travellers.

Autumn offers similarly agreeable weather, with temperatures between 18°C and 28°C, and the added spectacle of changing leaf colours, particularly around the vineyards in the surrounding El Dorado County wine region. This is an excellent time for couples interested in wine tasting tours and enjoying scenic drives through the countryside. Many local farms also offer harvest festivals and apple picking, providing a relaxed and enjoyable experience.

The summer months (July and August) can be quite hot, often exceeding 30°C, which might be less comfortable for extensive outdoor exploration. Winters (November to March) are cooler and wetter, with some snowfall in higher elevations, which could limit access to certain outdoor attractions.
