Top Fontaine-sur-Ay Hotel Reviews

Best Western Premier Hôtel de la Paix

10/10 Excellent

"Best hotel in Reims! I stay there every time I visit - unless it’s sold out!"

Loisium Wine & Spa Hotel Champagne

8/10 Good

"The Loisium is perfectly located amidst the vineyards and the views are second to none. The challenges I have with the hotel are as follows: - the hotel room we had didn’t smell great and over our three day stay, we had large flies in our room each day. There was no food in the room and we thought the room was being cleaned but the flies were there and still smelt funny - despite being located in the middle of Champagne, the number of champagnes available by the glass were v limited and the mark-up on the bottles were astonishing. - a petty point but we were offered a glass of champagne in the evening but when we sought to redeem it at the bar, we were offered Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire instead. When we asked the bartender about it, she was decidedly defensive which raised eyebrows. I do recognise this is a petty comment especially as the wine was free but from a communications perspective, it was unusual."

Hotel Campanile Reims Sud - Bezannes

8/10 Good

"It was more of a motel than hotel. The room was clean although the loo nearly came off the wall every time I sat on it and I’m not fat. During the shower I got scolded by sudden hot water all the time. The front door opened onto the street which I didn’t like and the door was rickety. The staff however were lovely and my daughter and I had a nice dinner at a great price. Breakfast was nice, they have a kettle and fresh milk so I could make a nice cup of tea and they let me fill my flask with hot water."

Those looking for maximum privacy and a deeper connection with the landscape might prefer a gîte or chambre d'hôte in one of the smaller hamlets just outside the main village, such as those dotted along the D201 towards Ay-Champagne.

When is the best time to go to Fontaine-Sur-Ay?

The best time to visit Fontaine-Sur-Ay is during the late spring and early autumn months, specifically May, June, September, and early October.

These periods offer pleasant weather conditions, with comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring the vineyards and enjoying outdoor activities. You'll find the countryside at its most picturesque, with lush greenery in spring and the vibrant colours of autumn foliage during harvest season. It's also a time when many local events and festivals celebrating the region's produce are in full swing.

For those interested in the wine-making process, September and October are particularly rewarding as they coincide with the grape harvest. Many local producers offer special tours and tastings during this bustling time, providing a unique insight into the region's primary industry. This period is superb for couples or solo travellers looking for a deeper understanding of the local culture and traditions surrounding winemaking.

If you prefer a quieter visit with fewer crowds, late spring – particularly May and early June – is an excellent choice. The weather is typically mild, and the vineyards are blooming.
