![Oze Iwakura is one of the largest ski resorts in the Kanto area with 16 courses, 9 lifts + 1 gondola, and 697 meters (2,286 ft) of vertical descent. It's said to be best suited for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, but there are several courses for advanced and beginners, too.
It's not as crowded as other more popular ski resorts and because there are so many advanced skiers, we had a great time snowboarding down several courses and didn't have a any trouble getting around.
Location: Gunma prefecture
Best to come by car, it's a 2-3 hr drive from Tokyo. (Parking on weekends are free if you have more than 4 people in the car!)

"Minakamikan is a great place to Stay, Clean and bright interior. Onsen was very nice, rooms have been keep in top shape, with new fresh tatami mats, clean walls, etc. Buffett breakfast had a lot of choices, Japanese and some western items. "施設内は清掃も行き届いており、気持ち良く過ごせました。パウダールームにはティーパックやラテの粉なども置いてあり、寒い日でしたが、体が暖まりました。バンガローからトイレまでが少し遠かったのと、パウダールームに虫が多かったこと、車がバンガロー横に置けなかったのが少し残念ではありました。バンガロー内はガスヒーターや電源もあり、暖かく過ごせました。トータル的には良かったです！"

"It’s hard to say what the most important thing is for a hotel stay. Is it 1) the property and room, 2) the food or 3) the staff? Well, it doesn’t matter with this property cause you’re winning on all 3. Quiet location at the end of summer/beginning of autumn, room size was good, room was clean, bed was fairly comfortable, bedding was great (the best pillows of the 8 hotels I’ve stayed in Japan). "Staff very friendly! Spend the extra money for the onsen in the room and for the buffet dinner! They are both worth every penny! We can’t wait to go back. The only downside was the bed/futon and bean pillows. The bed and pillow was uncomfortable and my husband didn’t like the futon and he sleeps on the floor every night. The “Las Vegas” was ok but many machines were down. Loved the pipe organ!!"
