Top Dakan Kotra Hotel Reviews

The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur

The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur

10/10 Excellent
"Oberoi Udaivilas is an outstanding resort in an extraordinary setting on the shores of Lake Pichola. The magnificent architecture, beautifully maintained grounds and attention to detail create a truly luxurious experience, combining elegance, tranquillity and exceptional hospitality. The staff were a real highlight, consistently warm, attentive and professional. Special thanks to Vikas, the chef, for his contribution to our dining experience; Riddesh and Rohit in the restaurant for their excellent service; and Sanjar at the pool for looking after us so well. Their genuine hospitality made our stay particularly memorable. One area where we felt the resort could improve was the music. With India's extraordinary musical heritage, it was disappointing that there was not more Indian music throughout the resort. This would have enhanced the atmosphere and created a more authentic cultural experience befitting such a special destination. We were also disappointed that we had not been advised in advance of the three-day dry period due to the elections. Advance communication would have been appreciated, as it would have allowed us to plan ahead and consider alternative arrangements. Overall, Oberoi Udaivilas is a spectacular property that delivers luxury, beauty and outstanding service. With better communication around local restrictions and a greater celebration of India's rich cultural identity, the experience could be even more exceptional."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Dakan Kotra?
The best area to stay in Dakan Kotra is the Old City, particularly within or very close to the fort walls, for an authentic and convenient experience.

The Old City is the historic heart of Dakan Kotra, characterized by its narrow, winding lanes, traditional havelis (mansions), and bustling bazaars. The iconic Dakan Kotra Fort dominates the skyline and is easily accessible from anywhere within this area. You'll find many guesthouses and boutique hotels located within these ancient streets, offering a glimpse into local life.

For couples seeking a romantic and culturally rich stay, the Old City is ideal. You can enjoy strolls through historic alleyways, dine at rooftop restaurants with views of the fort, and explore local crafts and textiles in the nearby markets. The proximity to the fort means you're always just a short walk from its historical and architectural wonders.

Travellers looking for a relaxed yet culturally rich experience will also find the Old City perfect. Its pedestrian-friendly nature means you can wander at your leisure, discovering hidden temples and local eateries.
When is the best time to go to Dakan Kotra?
The best time to go to Dakan Kotra is during the cooler, drier months, specifically from October to March.

During these months, the weather is most pleasant for exploring. Daytime temperatures typically range from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius, with nights being cooler, often dropping to 10-15 degrees Celsius. This makes it ideal for sightseeing, enjoying outdoor activities, and attending local festivals without the intense heat or monsoon rains.

Couples looking for a romantic and comfortable trip will find these months perfect. You can comfortably visit the ancient forts and palaces, stroll through the colourful markets, and enjoy desert safaris or camel treks in the mornings or late afternoons without the discomfort of extreme temperatures.

For those interested in cultural experiences, many local festivals, such as Diwali and the Pushkar Camel Fair, often fall within this period, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience the region's traditions.
