- ![The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899.  
Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils.  
The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. We were looking for a cheap and safe place to stay and this checked all the boxes. Nothing extravagant, but the staff was nice and the room was updated and clean. There aren’t any special amenities, but it’s a good place to just spend a night or two!

Nice clean updated room, little noise from traffic. Had an entertaining couple in the parking lot that were loud for a short time 😆 Would stay again

Bed was VERY comfortable, but the sheets and pillow cases smelled like cigars. It was a smoking room, because I smoke. But, do they not wash the sheets and pillow cases? Again, the bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. So, that's the important part. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner and body wash too.

Nice and cheap room to stay in. No bugs. There were no breakfast options in lobby. Bathroom in the rooms are extremely small but able to make it work. Would stay here again for price.

Staff was courteous, but room was a little dirty. Cobwebs in the ceiling corners and behind furniture of moved. Our room was right next busy/noisy highway. Bed was comfortable, room showed signs of recent renovation.

It was ok for the money. Beds and linens were comfortable and clean. The rest, not so much. There were smears and spills on the walls by the desk and in the bathroom, and grit in the corners. It just needs a deep clean. It was a very convenient location for us.
