![Chemillé-sur-Indrois (Indre-et-Loire) Aqueducs gallo-romain de la Ronde et du Gravier. Il s'agit de deux petits aqueducs sur la rive gauche de l'Indrois. Ces deux aqueducs devaient alimenter en eau une villa située à la limite de Chemillé et Montrésor. On estime le débit de chacun des aqueducs à environ 300 m³ par jour. Le premier aqueduc, probablement découvert lors du creusement des caves voisines, est une galerie souterraine de 1,70 m à 1,80 m de hauteur et large d’environ 55 cm. Le petit canal, de 17 cm par 17 cm, a été façonné après creusement de la galerie avec du ciment romain. Le canal (specus) est recouvert de terre par endroit et donc non visible. La galerie s'enfonce sous le plateau vers le sud, elle est ensuite partiellement comblée. Un bassin de régulation a pu être identifié, il permettait d'éliminer le trop plein dans une ravine ou de mettre l'aqueduc hors d'eau pour l'enteretien et les réparations. La seconde galerie mène à environ 33,50 m de l’entrée à une petite pièce ovoïde de 1m sur 1m,10 avec une aération donnant sur les champs. Ensuite la galerie est obstruée. Un aqueduc pouvait comporter des galeries souterraines, des ponts pour franchir les vallées, et par endroit être un simple canal recouvert de pierres. Lors de la construction, le calcul de la pente des aqueducs était effectué par les "libratores". Pour tracer le parcours les ingénieurs romains disposaient de trois instruments : la groma*, le chorobate* et la dioptra*. Les Gallo-romains avaient pour habitude de laisser tous les 30 m des puits (putei ou lumina) pour faciliter le creusement de la galerie et le calcul de la pente nécessaire à l’écoulement de l’eau. L'entretien des aqueducs, nettoyage et réparation, était assuré par les "aquarii". Les eaux acheminées étaient choisies avec soin. Dans "De Architectura", Vitruve nous indique la démarche : "« On pourra connaître par plusieurs observations qu'elle est la qualité des eaux. Car si elles coulent à découvert sur la terre, avant que de les enfermer pour les conduire, il faudra considérer qu'elle est l'état physique des habitants du lieu. S'ils sont robustes et de bonne couleur, et qu'ils ne sont sujets ni aux maux de jambe, ni aux fluxions sur les yeux, on sera assuré de la bonté des eaux. Mais aussi, dans le cas d'une fontaine nouvellement découverte, si des gouttes de son eau étant jetées sur du cuivre de Corinthe, ou sur d'autre bon cuivre, n'y font point de tâche, c'est un indice que l'eau est excellente. Et encore, si l'eau après avoir été bouillie ne laisse au fond du vase aucun sable ou limon ; et si l'on remarque que les légumes bouillis dans cette eau se cuisent promptement. Enfin on saura que l'eau est légère et très bonne, si étant claire et belle à la source, elle ne gâte point les lieux ou elle passe par de la mousse, des joncs ou d'autres saletés. » Le coût des aqueducs en faisait des constructions non seulement utilitaires, mais également de prestige. Elle est essentiellement composée d'une croix horizontale sur un support, au bout de chaque branche pend un fil à plomb. On place des piquets en les alignant sur deux fils à plombs. Le nom de groma viendrait du grec gnomon, équerre. Le chorobate servait à mesurer les dénivellations. Elle est essentiellement composée d'une règle avec une goutière dans laquelle on met de l'eau. Des fils à plomb permettent de mettre la règle horizontale. La distance de la surface de l'eau par rapport aux bords donne la pente. "Malheureusement le prix est vraiment exagéré par rapport à l’état de la chambre - moquette tachée, sale de bain peu pratique et isolation sonore moyenne - il faut réserver les restaurants à l’avance sous peine de devoir déjeuner très tôt et souper très tard comme il n’y a rien alentour. Mérite une petite revue du concept . La piscine est chouette mais les remous et autres étaient toujours fermés lors de nos visites . On aurait aimé un apéro au bord de l’eau mais il n’y avait pas de service non...
