The 300 acres (120 hectares) that make up Schönbrunn Palace and grounds belonged to the Hapsburg family for six centuries. Further additions to the original Baroque structure were made during the reign of Maria Theresa, Austria’s 18th-century empress and mother of Queen Marie Antoinette of France.
