The kitchen is a timeless centerpiece, featuring a timeless La Cornue gas oven and cooktop from Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, France, complemented by a whisper-quiet, American-made Vent-A-Hood. Guests are invited to celebrate Old World culinary traditions using top-of-the-line All-Clad cookware and glassware. Custom cabinetry, the kitchen island, and soaring eight-foot barn doors are handcrafted on-site from reclaimed heart pine, sourced during the home’s renovations. Entertainment is seemlessly modern with a Samsung 4k Smart television, offering complimentary access to Xfinity cable, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu. Each bedroom is designed for rest, offering sound machines and smart charging stations, surrounded by cypress shiplap walls and centuries-old heart pine—much of it dating back to the early 1600’s. The bathroom is a masterful blend of history and luxury, tiled with original repurposed Vermont slate dating to 1851, when the house was built by shipwrights. Salvaged standing-seam tin from the original front porch roof forms a striking backsplash behind the hand-hammered, nickel-plated vessel sink. Getting Around: There is plenty to see and places to visit within walking distance. Uber and Lyft are very common and will not be delayed. Street parking and parking garages are available and relatively easy to access. Other Things to Note: We are three blocks from King Street, right in the middle of all Charlestonian activity. Incredible restaurants such as Southbound, Verns, 167 Raw, Malagon, Indaco, and Azur. Great places to have drinks are even closer at places like Felix, Stars, Babas, and Prohibition. There are also great niche restaurants closer than King Street, such as coastal Italian at Allora or creative Indian at Rivayat. If you want the full Charleston experience, a walking tour or carriage tour is a must. If you have sea legs and are aiming for total immersion into history, the steamboat runs to Ft. Sumter daily and you can land your two feet exactly where the Civil War started. The apartment has a comfortable living room, well-equipped kitchen (all-clad pans if you want to do some serious cooking), and the best feature, IMO: a beautiful porch.Beds are comfy. The other big plus is the neighborhood—busy enough to provide great coffee, bagels, and dining options within blocks. But not so busy that you can’t get a good night’s sleep. ##### Alexandra W. I chose it mostly for the beautiful kitchen but the location was a great coincidence (only a few blocks from King Street). We planned on cooking a feast during our stay there and the pictures showed a very well equipped kitchen and a charcoal grill. However we did have some issues with the gas stove (had some difficulty getting the flame to turn on again after we turned it off) and the grill's lighter was out of fluid and there was no scrubber to clean it before we started using it. Thankfully we were able to pivot our grilling food to the kitchen! Otherwise the stay was great and the owners were very quick to respond to any questions we had! The place was gorgeous and near King street, so we walked everywhere we needed to go. We also took advantage of the covered front deck for a glass of wine during a light rainstorm and it is one of my favorite memories of our trip. There are also restaurants beside and below the property, giving us more easy options. George and team were very communicative, even as our travel plans kept updating at the last minute. This was the absolute perfect location for all the culinary delights of Charleston. George met us and walked us through the property--which is gorgeous! We were excited to be just steps from Sugar, Holey City Bagel, and Baba- all perfect for breakfast and sweets. We were a short walk from our dinner favorites--Fuel Cantina, Chez Nous, and Prohibition and a fabulous spot if you are coming back for a mid-afternoon porch relaxing lunch is right on site--Ladles. It was the perfect location to walk around, shop, and eat. The check in process was seamless and the property was exactly as described.
