Escape the hustle and bustle of Toronto at this island getaway. Hop off the ferry and into another world full of pristine beaches, delightful parks and scenic trails.

Located in Lake Ontario just off Toronto’s shores, Centre Island feels miles away from city life. Centre Island is part of the Toronto Islands chain. As the name implies, it is centrally located between Ward’s Island to the east and Hanlan’s Point to the west. Even further west is Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

Biking is the best way to explore the island. Stop by the pier, where you can rent a bike by the hour, and pick from standard, tandem and quad cycles. There are numerous trails that snake through the island along the shoreline and through the wooded areas.

During summer months, rent a canoe or kayak to explore the waters around the island. It is important to arrive early, because boats tend to go quickly.

In July and August, lifeguards and park rangers supervise the beaches that dot the south side of the island. On the western side of Hanlan’s Point, there is a famous clothing-optional beach. All beaches have full facilities including picnic spots, washrooms, fountains and barbecue areas.

Centreville Amusement Park is a favourite destination for visitors of all ages. With over 30 rides and activities ranging from a miniature golf course to a water park, you could easily spend an entire day here. Far Enough Farm, located next to the park, is home to a variety of barnyard animals.

If you get hungry or thirsty, refreshments are never far away. There are a number of concession stands throughout the island, along with several restaurants and cafés. Enjoy a meal with a spectacular view of the Toronto skyline as your backdrop.

The only way to reach Centre Island is by ferry, which leaves from Toronto Ferry Docks, located at the foot of Queen Quay and Bay Street. Ferries run regularly throughout the day but note that there is no winter service to Centre Island, but there are services to other islands in the chain. On clear, sunny days, get to the docks in the morning to avoid the long lines of travellers waiting to board the ferry to take the 15-minute scenic journey to the islands.

"The room was very spacious but the hotel itself wasn’t that nice. The lobby area is very dated, no bathroom, and there is a room off the lobby (that looks like it was originally a breakfast bar) that is used for storage (also where luggage storage goes). The bathrooms are on the second floor but ..."
