"Highly recommend staying at Alcanea. Eva, our host, was incredibly helpful and friendly. The staff/service was great. And the complimentary breakfast offered lots of local options and all were delicious. Best part of this stay was the view and location. The view of the port was awesome with the water, local bars/shops, and mountains in the distance. And there were dozens of restaurants and shops offering all we might need/want. This hotel made Chania feel like home."

Domes Zeen Chania, a Luxury Collection Resort, Crete

8/10 Good

"Staff were extremely pleasant and generally very helpful, although offers of help were sometimes not followed through on (actuallyreturning with a requested 2nd cup of coffee, blanket, etc). Important for travelers to recognize that this is a decidedly kid – friendly resort. This can be a positive or negative thing since things can get pretty chaotic and noisy, particularly in the dining areas at meal time. If you’re looking for a little less chaotic atmosphere it might be worth checking out their nearby adults-only resort."

SanSal Boutique Hotel – Adults & Children 11+

10/10 Excellent

"Loved my stay here! Quiet location, perfectly situated just a few minutes walk from Chania Old Town and near a beach. The staff are lovely and very helpful, showing great Greek hospitality day or night. Their local knowledge was invaluable. The rooms are modern, kept very clean and spacious. Ours had a view of the sea and a big balcony. The bathroom had a large tub and a walk-in shower, with two sinks!"

Morum City Hotel Chania

10/10 Excellent

"I had a wonderful stay at Morum City Hotel! I was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a Junior Studio Suite with a huge balcony, which was wonderful for sitting outside in the evenings with friends. The staff were fantastic, from the front desk to the housekeeping team. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The breakfast was good, and the location was excellent, with an easy walk down to the harbour. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Alikianós?

The best area to stay in Alikianós is within the village itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside for a tranquil escape.

Alikianós is a small, traditional Cretan village located in the fertile Keritis Valley, known for its olive groves and citrus orchards. It's a quiet location, offering a glimpse into local life. The village centre has a few local tavernas and a mini-market, providing essentials without the hustle and bustle of larger towns. It's located just a short drive inland from the coast, offering a good balance between rural peace and access to beaches.

Couples looking for a relaxing and authentic Cretan experience will find Alikianós ideal. You can enjoy peaceful walks through the orchards, savour home-cooked meals at local tavernas, and unwind by your private pool. It's an excellent base for exploring the historical sites and natural beauty of western Crete at your own pace.

For families, Alikianós offers a wonderful opportunity for a quiet holiday away from crowded tourist spots. Villas in the area often come with spacious gardens and private swimming pools, providing plenty of room for children to play.

When is the best time to go to Alikianós?

The best time to visit Alikianós is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months when the weather is pleasantly warm and the crowds are smaller.

Spring offers mild temperatures, typically ranging from 18°C to 25°C, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region, such as the olive groves and orange orchards. The landscape is lush and green, and wildflowers are in bloom. This is a great time for couples who enjoy hiking or exploring the local villages without the intensity of the summer heat.

Autumn provides similarly comfortable temperatures, usually between 20°C and 28°C, with the added benefit of warmer sea temperatures for swimming. The grape harvest often takes place in early autumn, offering a chance to experience local traditions. For those seeking a relaxed holiday with good weather and fewer tourists, this period is perfect.
