Tesoro Beach’s name translates as “the treasure” and it is easy to see why it has earned the title. This is a stunning stretch of sand set in a bay surrounded by hills and boasting translucent turquoise water filled with an abundance of marine life. Make your way here for sun-kissed hours of relaxation.
Bask on the soft, white sand under the shade of a palapa before going for a refreshing dip in the sea. The shallow water is ideal for children. For added fun, rent a kayak or paddleboard and zip through the water with the wind in your hair. If you are into nature bring a snorkel and mask with you to spy on the underwater world. The Sea of Cortez is a spectacular marine environment that lays claim to being one of the most bio-diverse bodies of water in the world.
When it is time for a break from the sand and the surf, head for the restaurant on the beach. Sip on a revitalizing drink and feast on specialties of the region including fresh fish caught in local waters. Appreciate the laid-back atmosphere and glorious views and stay on the beach to watch the sun going down.
While Tesoro Beach is an idyllic spot, it does not have amenities such as showers and restrooms. However, the palapas are free to use and the restaurant’s clients can make use of its facilities.
Tesoro Beach is approximately 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of La Paz, a drive that takes about 20 minutes. The on-site parking lot is free. Alternatively, use public transportation. There is a daily bus service that runs from the city, departing from the tourist bus terminal by the boardwalk. With this bus service you can also get to other La Paz beach destinations, such as Balandra Beach, Pichilingue Beach and El Tecolote Beach. Buses run from mid-morning until late afternoon.
