The best time to go to Tendo is during the spring (late April to early May) for cherry blossoms or autumn (late October to early November) for vibrant foliage.Spring in Tendo is particularly special due to the city's strong connection with shogi (Japanese chess). The Tendo Cherry Blossom Festival, held in late April, features a unique human shogi game where people dressed as pieces move on a giant board under blooming cherry trees at Maizuru Park. This period offers pleasant weather for exploring the city's parks and museums.Autumn provides spectacular natural beauty as the leaves change colour, especially around the mountains surrounding Tendo and along the local rivers. The cooler, crisp weather is ideal for visiting local temples, enjoying hot springs, and sampling seasonal produce like grapes and apples from the region.
