The property was very beautiful and well maintained! The onsen were excellent as well, once you got the hang of onsen etiquette. The ryokan is also situated near the base of Zao ski resort so you can walk over there for a day of skiing followed by a nice warm soak in the onsen! Additionally the breakfast and dinner experiences were incredible, everything was delicious and my boyfriend's food allergies were taken into account, and there was always an alternative for him (i.e., shrimp was replaced with fish). An uphill walk from bus station or about $50 taxi. We visitors in January. Icy steps! The staff was great to carry luggage up to room! Chucky was so nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay, and especially the longevity onsen soup/water was comforting, smooth, and healing. They provided excellent care for us during the stay, the meals were scrumptious, and the drinks were great! Everyone was extremely nice, polite and pleasant. The breakfast and dinner menus were copious, delicious and made with local ingredients. Even a simple tomato could shine with the incredible skills of the chef.
