Our rating reflects the disparity between our expectations booking a boutique resort that touts offering a luxury experience (at a much higher than average price point for the area) and the actual experience we had. Pros: The grounds are beautiful and appear as shown in the photos. The staff is polite, friendly, and attentive. The theming of the resort is unique with elements including the rooms themselves designed to mimic bird’s nests as also reflected in the name of the restaurant (Nido is nest in Spanish), and the naming of each room after a local bird. K’u also means nest in the Mayan language. The design blends nicely into the local environment. The food that we had from the restaurant was good with the chef and kitchen staff at dinner doing a particularly good job with the food and presentation. The cleanliness of the rooms and facilities was generally very good with exceptions noted below. Cons: Here we will itemize our long list of small annoyances. Extra costs: There is a “no external food or drink” policy at the resort. Onsite food and drink costs that were considerably higher than average. The drinks in particular were expensive. If you bring outside alcohol the resort charges a $500 peso uncorking fee to have it on property. It should also be noted that my husband’s coffee was consistently brought to him at room temperature.
