Sibiu Vacation Packages

One of Romania’s most charming destinations, this citadel city is home to pretty medieval squares, historic fortifications and a rich cultural scene.

Sibiu enchants visitors with its cobbled streets, elegant old buildings and winding alleys. The city gained the attention of international tourists in 2007, when it shared the first "European Capital of Culture" title with Luxembourg, leading to a large-scale restoration of its historic squares and buildings. Investigate the remains of the city’s medieval wall, explore ancient defensive watchtowers and attend one of many festivals, exhibitions and performances hosted across the city year-round.

Head to Piaţa Mare to visit Brukenthal Palace, one of Romania’s top art museums. The square is also home to the Council Tower. Climb to the top for incredible views over the city, stretching toward the Făgăraş Mountains.

Don’t miss the city’s Orthodox Metropolitan Church, one of Romania’s largest. The church was built in the early 20th century and was modeled after the grand Cathedral of St. Sophia in Istanbul. Step inside the church’s ornate interior, which features golden chandeliers, an elaborate frescoed altar and a beautiful central dome decorated with mosaics.

Visit the spectacular "ASTRA" National Museum Complex, with an enormous open-air museum dedicated to Romanian peasant life. Spread over 237 acres (96 hectares), the museum features more than 400 traditional structures, including mills, wooden churches and homes. Visit throughout the year for festivals, workshops and other events.

Sibiu is said to host more annual festivals than any other Romanian city, so you’re sure to find exciting events taking place during your visit. Come here during June to attend the International Theatre Festival, one of the country’s most famous performing arts events. One major highlight is the Transylvania International Film Festival in July, which features more than 200 films from 60 nations.

Sibiu is located 170 miles (270 kilometers) northwest of Bucharest. To get here, take the train from Bucharest and catch a trolleybus to the city center. The city is also well connected by air to Bucharest, Munich, Stuttgart, Vienna and Madrid. Start planning your culturally enriching trip to this European capital.
