We absolutely loved our stay at Cenobio Hotel in Matera. Staying in a cave hotel was such a unique experience and felt like the perfect way to experience the Sassi, while still being incredibly comfortable. The climate-controlled air conditioning worked wonderfully, and the room was a welcome retreat after spending the day exploring Matera.
What really made our stay exceptional, though, was Mario. From the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to take care of us. He met us in the piazza where our taxi dropped us off and helped us carry our luggage to the hotel, which we greatly appreciated given Matera’s many steps and stone streets! He was also incredibly helpful during our stay, including assisting us with restaurant reservations.
The combination of the beautiful cave accommodations, wonderful location, and genuinely personal hospitality made this one of the memorable stays of our trip through Italy. We would highly recommend Cenobio to anyone visiting Matera and would happily stay here again.

We were in the wellness suite, room 1007. What a fantastic room! Carved out of a cave, with four levels, including a huge hot tub and a sauna, the room was so unique. The bedroom is on the main level, with the bathroom being about 3 steps down, the hot tub about 10 steps down from there and the sauna on the lowest level about 5 more steps down. You will never find another one like this. The staff was very helpful in finding our way around and addressing any needs that we had during this stay. The breakfast was great and location was fantastic. Highly recommended.

The whole experience was perfect. The location is in the Sassi area and the accommodations were very well appointed with elegant modern design juxtaposed with the ancient architecture of the building.
The staff were charming, knowledgeable of the area amenities.
We will be back to stay longer.

"A very nice hotel with all the basics. Comfortable beds and the bathrooms are updated and modern. Parking needs to be directlyin frontifthe hotel due to car thefts, but we did not feel unsafe even when returning from a wedding at 2am. Proximity to train station makes this hotel very convenient"
