Loved the pool area and the size of the room. Very friendly staff.

Our stay was a perfect beach getaway! The small hotel was as close to the beach as you could get with its own boardwalk going out to the sand. The rooms are updated and beds are comfy! When the sand and sun got a little too much, we very quickly rinsed off and jumped into the pool which was right outside our room! Staff was super helpful and were available until 8pm. Our ocean view room was more of a partial view since we were on the first floor but we loved being so close to the pool, the ice machine and the patio to relax at the end of the night. There was always just enough parking and we ubered into the busier parts of Carolina Beach for $6 where we had dinner, enjoyed the rides and then walked home.

We had stayed at the Blockade Runner several times but not in the last 15 years since Holiday Inn and Shell Island had it beat. Unfortunately the Trailborn is the same hotel with a fresh coat of paint and some decor upgrades. For the price, we were expecting a more upscale facility. The Holiday Inn is nicer and I believe less costly. This is not a reflection on staff and service since all of those were very good but they should have invested and committed to a more complete renovation. This would have fully set them apart from the other options in Wrightsville. Valet parking is nice but the lot is That said, the draw is Wrightsville beach so we had a great stay regardless.
