It was shabby and untidy, but not necessarily dirty. The shower looked like someone had burnt a whole into the floor with a cigar. Stained curtains and carpets. This has vintage motel 6 vibes, which is fine if they were charging $50 a night or less. This was almost $200 a night, which is certainly ridiculous for an old school motel that hasn’t been renovated in decades.

9/10 Wonderful! (1,010 reviews)
This hotel has it all! The location is perfect, gym with sauna and steam room was luxurious, and bars and restaurants exceptional. We stayed a couple of nights before our cruise out of Whittier. We rented e-bikes a few steps away and traveled Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to Kincaid park and back, since the trail starts right near the hotel. While the hotel was busy with travelers, I was impressed by the Pantry’s hostess’s ability to accurately time the wait for our table. She said 20 minutes and I wondered “actually 20” or “restaurant 20” since I’ve experienced 20 turn to 40 in other places. We set a timer and she called our name 30 seconds before it ended. We enjoyed drinks and lunch at Fletcher’s. The Buffalo Trace Old Fashioned was on point. All meals were well portioned and delicious. Clean, generously sized rooms. Kudos to the entire staff at Captain Cook’s -experienced and dialed in, taking care of everyone. Highly recommend!

The front desk staff were awful, rude and dishonest. I walked in to book our stay, and the staff told me no more rooms available when I clearly see there were still 6 rooms on Expedia. She didn’t even bother to check their computer system, but instead just look at me and said “we have no rooms available.” We had a long day of hiking so I just went ahead and booked from Expedia, and it was super expensive—$986 for 2 nights stay. The second staff who check us in was also rude and not friendly at all. The room he gave us was on the ground floor at the furthest corner of the hotel. Room was not worth $500 a night—more like $100 or $200 at most. The hotel looks like it’s newly remodeled but the front desk staff were so awful that I will never recommend this hotel. Management needs to hire more friendly front desk staff.
