Come and enjoy your own piece of New Smyrna Beach history at “The Tatum House Cottage”, a recently renovated 1940’s Florida historical beach cottage conveniently located at 1001 Hill Street, NSB. Originally built by the Tatum family in 1940, The Tatum House is recognized by almost all of New Smyrna Beach natives as one of the first and now oldest remaining beach homes. This home radiates the charm and flair of old Florida family beach days. Envision yourself sitting on the back porch in our classic white Adirondack chairs, a beach breeze keeping you cool, the sound of the ocean waves rolling in the background, with the sea shells collected from your morning walk sitting at your feet. These are the kind of days that can be enjoyed by guests of The Tatum House. With four bedrooms and three full baths, this home easily accommodates a family or a couples’ getaway. The large sectional in the living room invites you to curl up for a nap or gather as a group for movie night. There is plenty of eating space with the large kitchen bar and cozy dining table. When renovating the home, it was important to us that we maintain the historical integrity and old Florida charm, while throwing in a gentle touch of modern conveniences and upgrades. Many of the home’s features remain from the original construction, including red pine wood floors throughout, bedroom doors and hardware. The newly tiled kitchen and bathrooms were selected to stay consistent with the patterns of the period. Each room has been named after a landmark. Be sure to spend some time in the stairwell enjoying historical pictures of the home and new Smyrna from back in the day! In addition to the 75” TV in the living room, each bedroom hosts a 43 inch mounted TV to allow for private wind down time in your room. All bedrooms have an ocean view. The storage shed on the property houses an assortment of beach chairs, bikes, floats, etc. for your use during your stay. And when you aren’t just hanging out at Tatum house, you will find you are very conveniently located in New Smyrna, just off of 1st Avenue for easy exploring around town. You are within half a mile of famous Flagler Avenue, which boasts plenty of restaurants, shopping, bars, art shows, etc. You’re three blocks from the conveniences of the grocery store (Publix), more shopping and eating, the famous Red Dog Surf Shop for beach clothing and surf gear and The Little Theatre for a night out of local talent. Walk out the back door, straight onto the beach and you are within a quarter mile of great beachfront eating and cocktails at Toni and Joe’s (to the north) and Sea Vista Tiki Bar (to the South). A little further down gets you to Breakers (north) and Chases (south). When you book, we will hook you up with the complete lowdown on the places to hit in NSB during your stay!!! It exceeded our expectations! It felt like home the minute we entered the front door and were greeted by the most charming coastal cottage decor and a lemon cake with our name on it. It is obvious the owners take great care of this home. We had 3 young adult sons staying with us, each having their own bedroom. The beach is perfect. Soft sand, No garbage or seaweed or other mysterious things (at least while we were there). The ocean was perfect for a swim from morning until night. The town was charming, with many delicious restaurants including the Breakers, Prima, and Outrigger- all yummy with great service. I wish I would have known cars parked on the beach but I guess I should have just known the area I was staying in. Other than that, the house is really nice - the owners are even nicer! We had long daily walks and several went surfing in the ocean. The house is very close to Flagler where all the shops, restaurants, and bars are located. The cottage is very well equipped in the kitchen and there are many towels for the bathrooms and the beach. The beds are inviting with their comforters and pillows. We loved every aspect of the cottage and had a wonderful stay. ##### judith b. The back porch is well appointed with plenty of seating and direct access to the beach. There is a large shed on property with an assortment of beach items - we used the bikes to ride to the French Bakery in the morning. All furnishings were as described. The location, ample parking and views cannot be beat! Owner was responsive and baked a lemon Bundt cake which was waiting for us upon our arrival - nice touch! The property manager was very accessible and I loved all of the extras! (bikes, beach chairs, towels, etc). The house itself was roomy enough for our group of eight. The Tatum house looked so special and exceeded our expectations! The location is ideal in every way, the outdoor dining areas and grill made every bite taste even better, the abundance of beach chairs, tents, toys and towels made beach time so convenient, and the charming home, and fluffy beds made relaxing ever so easy. This property is truly a 5 star. Accurately described. Check in and check out are smooth. Easy private beach access. The outdoor area around the back of the house facing the beach is spacious allowing all of us to be outside for dinner and drinks. The grill was clean with plenty of propane for cooking. Our hosts were super responsive and thought of everything, including being welcomed with a delicious lemon cake upon arriving. We spent four amazing nights and our adult kids and family had no problem settling comfortably in. The beds were comfy with high end bedding, a wonderful cozy open living/ kitchen area that had a five star view. The porches had excellent hang out areas. Easy direct access to beach with a stunning up close view! The back porch has a wonderful covered area in case it rains with rocking chairs. I have to mention how well the AC works. We rent beach homes and condos often and this one really works and no temperature requirements! Also, I totally appreciated such a lovely historic decorated so beautifully. ##### Leslie H.
