Cruise over the red and white Mui Ne Sand Dunes on a quad bike or try the local residents’ favorite sport of sand sledging. Follow the winding freshwater stream through the dunes and enjoy a stunning sunset from the high, sandy peaks.
The Mui Ne Sand Dunes consist of one set of red and one set of white dunes. You can easily walk between them. Find a number of different activities and ways to enjoy the stunning scenery at either dune.
Start at the white dune to see dramatic, windblown sand patterns reminiscent of the Sahara Desert. Rent a quad bike or dune buggy and enjoy the thrill of the wind in your hair as you race across the hills of sand.
For yet more excitement, head to the red dune to try sand sledging. The firmer sand here means that you can slip and slide down the dunes on a plastic tray. Rent trays from one of the local children. Make sure you agree on a clear price with the person whose sled you are using before you set off.
Those who prefer things at a slower pace can explore the dunes on foot. One of the most popular routes will take you to the Fairy Spring, a freshwater stream that trickles down into the sea from a source high in the dunes. Start your hike from the beach you will walk through abundant pine trees and past several interesting rock formations. If possible, plan your visit to the Mui Ne Sand Dunes around the end of the day, as the sunset over the seemingly endless mounds of sand is a beautiful sight.
To get to the Mui Ne Sand Dunes, take a taxi from the town, or walk about 30 minutes. It is a good idea to wear shoes rather than sandals as the sand gets scorchingly hot during the day. Purchase food and drinks from stalls at the white dune.
