John Peterson built the windmill in 1810, and William Boyd purchased it in 1815. It originally had four common sails, but four more were added by the family. The mill is a timber-frame structure, octagonal in shape, and about 30 feet (9.1 m) tall, with a rotating cap powered by eight vanes with canvas sheets. The mill is located on a public area so the grounds are open. Je n'ai pas été séduite par l'aspect extérieur du bâtiment qui est assez massif. Le valet parking était ok. L'intérieur est très beau. Une décoration style paquebot. Les bars et restaurants sont bien décorés et la nourriture est très bonne. Les chambres sont grandes. Par contre, nous avions réservé une chambre avec vue : la vue était sur le parking..... pas terrible.
