« A very cute remodeled, motel just outside of an adorable town. Everything was clean and we had access to extra towels and coffee. I would've just liked to have had control of my heat. It got rather warm so we were just able to turn on the air. It was very quiet and quaint. I would return. »

« Hôtel excellent, très très propre, qui sent bon dès l'arrivée dans le hall ainsi que quand on ouvre la chambre. Extrêmement calme, un bonheur pour bien récupérer la nuit, quand on fait un Roadtrip. Petit déjeuner complet avec sucré et salé. Hors des heures de petit déjeuner, il reste à disposition : couvert, fruits, céréales, yaourts, beurre et cream cheese. Toujours les boissons chaudes dans le hall (thé, café et chocolat chaud) et un distributeur d'eau fraîche avec des rondelles de...

« Overall for a single traveler looking to save some money it’s a good place to use. That being said, the hotel is getting old so some wear and tear is definitely evident. Cracked tiles in the bathroom, wearing away of the porcelain coating in the tub, and a couple other minor things. The breakfast is good. It’s the same as a lot of places with the waffle maker and hot food along with oatmeal and cereal selections. The staff were friendly and welcoming as always. Unless you have issues checking...

« Check-in was fine but once we got to our room, the smoke detector battery was dead, so it was chirping. The window was open and couldn’t close it. So we were moved to another room that room didn’t have a shower curtain so we were removed again with third row Camee to find out when we try to get ready for my grandmother’s funeral that the hot water wasn’t hot it was lukewarm and the outlet didn’t work so I couldn’t get ready in the bathroom. ![This nifty metropark in downtown Dayton is a combination of farmer's market and local craft sale with food stands. It's only open Thursday - Saturday. Great place to pick up some local produce or dairy or honey, get some lunch while enjoying live music, and find a couple nifty local knick-knacks. ![Tumbleweed is one of the many funky bars in Dayton's historic Oregon District.  The decor is bizarre and you'll probably spot something new and entertaining every time you're there, no matter how many times that's been!  There's a small second story area which affords a great view of the stage (pictured), where they've got live music several days a week.  There's also an outdoor deck which is open in the summer and plastic-wrapped in winter so the smokers can still use it. The Deeds Carillon, the largest carillon in Ohio had been transformed into the shape of a holiday tree towering 200 feet in the air and glowing with 20,000 white lights.

The plan was for the Carillon Tree of Light to be turned on nightly through New Year’s Day and be accompanied by the bells playing a medley of holiday classics on the hour.

I went on Sunday night and stood in wonderment of the melodic bells and the strands of light enhancing the already majestic silhouette of the carillon. 

Overnight, wind gusts in excess of 40 or even 50 miles per hour damaged many of the strands of light. By morning, the damage was such that the display was beyond repair and will now be taken down for the year.

A carillon is a musical instrument that is typically housed in the belfry of a church or municipal building. The instrument consists of at least 23 cast bronze, cup-shaped bells.

The tower was built in 1942 to commemorate the Deeds family. When the tower was built, each of 23 bells was inscribed with the name of a family member, with the “silent” bells bearing the names of deceased family members and ringing bells cast with the names of family members then living. 

Today, with 57 bells, the carillon is Ohio’s largest. I'm not sure how much competition there is in that category.
