This backcountry lodge is beautiful. It is also convenient to various trail nearby. A short hiking trail led us to an escarpment overlooking the Athabasca River Valley, which includes many lakes. It was stunning in the bright sunshine.
The location is a very nice get away close to the wilderness, amenities and activities. Family oriented facility. Friendly staff throughout. Only real complaint was that the restaurant was slow getting breakfast out when you want to get an early start and enjoy the day. Explanation was short staffed. The food itself was good - both breakfast and Dinner.
Great place to spend Christmas. They even give you cookies for Santa, complementary smore making kits for the fire. Staff are super attentitive, food was amaizing. It was a real magical experience. Even when the power went out, they did their best to use generators and help out any needs you have. Gym and hot tub area was well Kempt and clean. Will definatly be returning. Only down side if you can call it that, we were not able to moderate the temperature of our room (likly it was our error) but our room was super hot.

We were really excited to stay here for a family trip. The views are beautiful, loved that we could rent snowshoes, and skates free for an hour if you’re a guest. The restaurant food and service was the best part of our stay. When it comes to the rooms, it was so disappointing. Tiny rooms - which was fine, but the minute we walked into the room it was boiling like an oven. We tried to turn the thermostat down and off and the temperature just wouldn’t change, we had to sleep with the window and door wide open all night it was absurd. The water pressure would literally stop in the evenings and only droplets would come out of the tap. The worst is that there was so much snow and no staff or anyone would even shovel or clear the steps going up to the rooms and my elderly parents kept falling on them each time as it was was really slippery and covered. The rooms are renovated and clean and updated which was good though.
