About this property

Redwoods Oceanview Retreat

  • Make your Mendocino Coast escape to the rustic chic Redwoods Oceanview Retreat, a 2-bedroom, 2-bath cabin with magnificent ocean views and a partial view of the Navarro River. Situated in Elk, this vacation home blends elements of modern and English Medieval decor with luxurious amenities fit for royalty – including a hot tub overlooking the ocean. This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, secluded family holiday, or creative retreat. Come make yourself at home!

High ceilings with exposed wood beams, redwood walls, and brick floors channel a traditional chalet, while 50 mbps internet will keep you connected to the outside world – if you want it to. (If you want to go off-grid for a few days, we won't tell!)

Thanks to a fully-equipped kitchen, you can whip up meals and treats whenever inspiration strikes. The redwood breakfast bar is a great place to greet the day with coffee or tea and your favorite morning fare.

The living room features high ceilings and a chandelier, an open floor plan, and plenty of space to relax, with a TV, a couch, and comfortable lounge chairs. It also has nearly floor-to-ceiling windows, so if you don't find anything on Netflix, you can always watch the view of the trees and the hills down to the ocean. If you like vinyl, you can put your favorite music on the record player and rock out (up to you whether to dance like nobody's watching).

The two bedrooms have queen-size beds, and one has an en-suite bathroom. Finely crafted wardrobes offer convenient storage. You'll have plenty of creature comforts while relaxing on your royal estate.

If you're looking for peaceful solitude, you'll find it here. Situated on 2+ forested acres, Redwoods Ocean Retreat is ideal for quiet, reflective moments – or for invigorating treks through the trees. If you prefer to unwind al fresco, sit in the Adirondack chairs on the wrap-around deck or sink into the hot tub and take in the stunning vistas. Portions of the property have a view of the Navarro River, so you can breathe in the fresh air while listening to the roar of the ocean and the lapping of the river.

When you're ready to roam a bit farther afield, you're 10 minutes' drive from the hidden gems of Elk, a small coastal town where you'll find a grocery store, an art gallery, restaurants, and Greenwood Creek State Beach. Or, you can head north to Albion, Little River and Mendocino, or south to Manchester and Point Arena. The Arena Theater, a classic theater from 1928 restored to its full glory, offers a unique medley of arthouse films, special events, and the latest blockbusters.

Award-winning restaurants dot the coast, or you can pick up picnic supplies and explore the Point Arena Lighthouse, Bowling Ball Beach, or one of the many other trails in the area.

They say your home is your castle, and this vacation home lives up to the name. The Redwoods Ocean Retreat may not have a moat, but it will enchant you all the same!

NOTE ON THE WOOD BURNING STOVE: We all love a cozy fire on a chilly evening but Mendocino is notorious for forest fires and we are all about guest safety. We never allow anyone to use the wood stove as we never want to have an ember start either a fire in the home itself, a forest fire or even worse both! The woodstove is in the pictures because it's a main part of the living room but we just cannot take the risk on that! This is true for all of our homes that have wood burning fireplaces or woodstoves! Thank you for understanding.

Beautiful ocean overlook through the trees. We watched the sunset over the Pacific every evening. The cabin was comfortable and clean with cute details like a record player, toy box, Adirondack chairs, etc.

This is an amazing place to stay! Gorgeous setting, easy access to nature and to day trips to Anderson Valley for wine tasting or Mendocino for brunch and a small town tour. It was perfect for a weekend getaway with my family and especially nice since we could take our family dog. We are definitely coming back!

There was good and bad to this stay. The property location easy to find and great. Convenient to spectacular coastline for sure. House has a cabin feeling, fine with that. Note that the second bedroom is accessible only by exiting the house and reentering down some flights of stairs, depending on your needs this could be convenient or not but I did not know this from the listing. I'm an artist and work in interior design, I really liked the artwork and wall decor, might be silly but these things matter. The hot tub is needing replacement perhaps and upon our arrival the water was the color of my morning black tea. I contacted the property managers immediately, our stay was for 3 nights , and despite some back and forth the issue was never resolved. So we did not get to use the hot tub at all. There were other tiny issues that I think are due to the property being remotely managed and not owner managed. I spoke to VRBO and they were very understanding but ultimately I feel let down by VRBO as I booked through them and there is no way to tell if the property you are booking is owner managed or professionally managed when you are making your choices. This is my first time using VRBO.

Lovely, cozy home in private setting with a blue water view of the ocean. The hot tub was wonderful- clean, just the right temperature, private, and with an ocean sunset view! Well supplied. The only thing missing was firewood for the wood stove - it was a little chilly.

Nicely situated on the hillside. Beautiful view of the sunset from the hot tub, chairs in the deck, or comfy chairs inside. We even saw some whales! Kitchen is stocked with enough dishware, cups, silverware etc. Bedrooms are large. The beach that’s the closest to the house is amazing. There’s also some great dining options within 10 minutes.

This was the spot ! What I needed to recharge . Not to far from Fort Bragg however far enough to feel a part of nature. Everything you need is right here including great music and a hot tub. A day trip to the river and the beach is so easy. Loved the picture window and feeling as if I was part of the trees when enjoying my morning coffee or afternoon cold tea. We will return.
