The universally excellent staff save this hotel from being an absolute disaster. We booked two months in advance, paid £196 + £10 for parking. The hotel is tired gloomy and depressing. We were assigned room 101 which was positioned in a corridor that that wouldn't have looked out of place in a squat. The furniture was old and mismatched, one of the table lights didn't work, the 1970s phone was broken and we overlooked the bins. The room also smelled damp and of stale cigarettes. The headboard was badly chipped as were all of the internal doors. We were actually going to check out but the very professional and helpful receptionist found us another room. It wasn't much better and not worth £196 but it was at least serviceable and it was easier for us to stay than to leave. We still had a view of the bins.
The breakfast was OK but only because the breakfast staff were also lovely. We would not recommend this hotel.

"Been using this hotel for a number of years as son is at uni in Plymouth Room is basic but clean and adequate They tend to have lots of coach parties which devour the breakfast - so breakfast can be a bit depleted Staff on the whole very friendly Bar shut at 10 pm and we had to try and find some ..."
