"I cannot rate The Astor in Goa high enough. We used Goa as a stop gap for our India holiday and it was amazing. I had an upgrade and used the Spa and Gym as well as the pool which was welcoming after being in the sun. The staff were fab, very friendly and considerate, couldn't do enough, always helpful. Food was also delicious, Ishani looked after us throughout, always with a smile on her face. Thank you to everyone at The Astor, hopefully return soon."

Taj Holiday Village Resort & Spa

8/10 Good

"We stayed here for 1 night before travelling back to Mumbai, me and my 11 yo son. The hotel is on beautiful grounds and spread out with lots of low rise bungalows. We were given a 1st floor room with a beautiful view of the sea. If you want a week beach holiday, this would be a lovely place, you could stay here happily. The room was lovely and clean. There were a few bungalows being renovated so it would have been upsetting to be in one of the bungalows nearby with drilling and building works going on all day. Having been to 6 other hotels on our stay we had come accustomed to the amazing service in India, so was disappointed with the service at this hotel, as this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel. At breakfast we were totally ignored, at the pool bar we stood there for about 15 minutes waiting, the pool staff weren't overly friendly. We came here as it listed a lot of activities for my son to do, but most of these weren't on, so there was just a zipline and wall climb, which took about 15 minutes. Couldn't find the football and no zorbing in the pool. Prices for food and drink here were extremely expensive, especially when you aren't getting the service. You can walk along the beach and there are lots of restaurants to eat at. Outside is a baskins robbins and we ate at a lovely restaurant outside the gates by the roundabout. Overall it is probably a nice place to stay for a family holiday if you get all inclusive but we wouldn't stay again."

Ronil Goa - a JdV by Hyatt hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Just stayed at the hotel for 10 nights and loved it. The property is very clean and well maintained. Rooms are a little on the small side so I suggest spending a little more for a bigger room. Pool area is clean and tidy with nice beds and a swim up bar. There are not many beds but we never had problems getting one every day. Lovely pizzas, good cocktails and fantastic happy hours. Spa prices are not dissimilar to those in town so we opted to use the hotel and wasn't disappointed. Breakfast is excellent, lots of choice and all very fresh. Staff are all fantastic and attentive. We paid for a private family event and they went above and beyond to make it special. Thank you Ronil Hyatt we had a great time."

Grand Hyatt Goa

8/10 Good

"A beautiful hotel, exceptionally clean. A large wedding departed the day we checked in and another checked in while we were there. They book the majority of the hotel, so it does feel a bit like normal guests are surplus. Areas sectioned off, music pounding, wedding guests returning late at night, waking us. Our Air con broke, we told front desk, three hours later nobody had come, had to call again and someone was sent. Keys to our room stopped working so we were stuck in the hallway, again three calls and 40 mins for someone to bring new keys ( we were just out of the pool, so didn’t want to go to reception) My husband used the spa, which he said was perfect, but again, no one to help/assist on where to go once he checked in. Everything just felt a little like a battle, hiccups happen but it’s how they are resolved that leaves an impression."

Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa, Goa

10/10 Excellent

"Perfect place to relax in historic settings with great views. The staff is top notch and the included breakfast had lots of fresh made options besides the standard buffet fare. Take time to explore the grounds for great views and the next door Taj property. The spa was luxuriously relaxing with a sauna and steam room. Convenient shuttles and buggies are available but I enjoyed wandering on foot and getting my steps in. The fort and beach below are prominently visible from around the property (and my well appointed room) and also easily accessed to explore further. A must do for a classic heritage-style experience. The restaurants and bar were great. The concierge also helped arrange for a car to explore Old Goa. Relaxing getaway convenient from both Goa airports."

Taj Cidade de Goa Horizon, Goa

10/10 Excellent

"We had a wonderful stay at the Taj Horizon. Initially I thought I should have gone further South but once we got yo the Hotel it is a perfect location. The staff was incredible and there was always someone wanting to know how the stay was going and if they could assist with anything to make the stay even more comfortable. It was so nice of the hotel to also provide packed hot breakfast for three of us for our early morning departure. I’ve lived in USA 40+ years and stayed at many nice hotels but nothing compares to the hospitality and service you get in India. Hat’s off to all the staff at mostly all Hotels. The breakfast teams were great and so was the dinner buffet and staff. Thank you for the wonderful stay and hope to come again to Goa and stay once more in the Sea face rooms!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Dongorpur?

The best area to stay in Dongorpur is along the coastal stretch of Palolem Beach, particularly the northern end, for a balance of amenities and a relaxed atmosphere.

This area is renowned for its crescent-shaped beach, fringed with palm trees and dotted with beach shacks and bungalows. The main road running parallel to the beach, Palolem Beach Road, is where you'll find most of the shops, cafes, and guesthouses. It's a very walkable area, allowing easy access to the beach and local conveniences.

Couples often find the northern end of Palolem Beach ideal. It tends to be a bit quieter than the central section, offering a more tranquil setting for strolls along the shore or enjoying a meal with a view. Many accommodations here provide direct beach access, superb for a romantic getaway.

For solo travellers looking for a relaxed yet social environment, the central part of Palolem Beach offers more options for beachfront cafes and informal gatherings. It's easy to meet other travellers here, and there's a good selection of yoga studios and wellness centres.

When is the best time to go to Dongorpur?

The best time to go to Dongorpur is during the dry season, which runs from October to March, offering ideal weather for exploring.

During these months, the weather is consistently pleasant with clear skies and comfortable temperatures, making it great for enjoying the beaches and outdoor activities. You'll avoid the heavy monsoon rains and high humidity that characterise the summer months.

This period is particularly good for couples looking for a relaxing escape. The cooler, drier weather allows for comfortable strolls along the beaches, enjoying a sunset cruise, or dining al fresco. You can easily spend your days unwinding by the sea or exploring the local markets without the discomfort of extreme heat or rain.

Families will also find this time of year excellent. The gentle weather is suitable for children to play on the beach, swim in the sea, and participate in various water sports without interruption.
