![Eguzon-Chantôme (Indre) Le Barrage d'Eguzon, depuis la rive droite.. Barrage hydro-électrique sur la Creuse. L'inauguration du barrage a eu lieu le 5 juin 1926. Journal "Le Midi Socialiste" du dimanche 6 juin 1926: "Une œuvre cyclopéenne Châteauroux, 5 juin. - Ce matin a eu lieu la cérémonie de l'inauguration du barrage et de l'usine d'Eguzon, dans l'Indre. Il s'agissait de déclencher l'usine et de visiter les travaux gigantesques réalisés pour constituer une retenue d'eau, lac artificiel qui mesure environ 18 kilomètres de longueur, 1 kilomètre de large, et contient dans sa vasque environ 54 millions de mètres cubes d'eau apportée par la Creuse. C'est cette eau qui, canalisée, disciplinée, viendra en se libérant actionner les turbines de l'usine et en transformer en énergie électrique transportable à des centaines de kilomètres. Les travaux entrepris en 1921 par Hydro-électrique consistèrent dans la construction d'un barrage de 60 mètres de hauteur et d'une usine de 40.000 kilowats de puissance, sur la Creuse. L'équipement de cette chute constitue le premier stade dans I'aménagement de l'énergie du massif central, dont la plus grande partie doit, être utilisés pour l'électrification des chemins de fer et I'alimentation de la région parisienne. Le barrage d'Eguzon est le plus haut barrage de France. Il a entraîné l'emploi de 210.000 mètres cubes de béton. Il est susceptible d'évacuer un débit de 2.000 mètres cubes. L'énergie produite par t'usine sera en année moyenne, de 120 millions de kilowats-heure." La construction du barrage a nécessité l'apport de main-d'œuvre étrangère : "D’autres types de chantiers comme celui du barrage d’Eguzon, projet d’électrification d’intérêt national ont nécessité la venue d’une main-d’oeuvre étrangère nombreuse. Ce chantier qui a débuté en 1916 s’est achevé en 1926. La cité créée alors pour loger les ouvriers rassemble jusqu’à 1 500 étrangers soit l'équivalent de la population d’Eguzon même, originaires d’Europe, d’Afrique et d’Asie. (Histoire et mémoire des immigrations en Région Centre - Rapport final mai 2008 - Coordination : Sylvie Aprile, Pierre Billion, Hélène Bertheleu) Le journal "le Dimanche-Illustré du 7 décembre 1930 (N°406) légendait une photo du barrage tout neuf : "Oeuvre de titans : le Barrage d'Eguzon. Le barrage d'Eguzon, dans la Creuse, est un des plus représentatif élément de l'énergie et du génie humain: construit en ciment armé, haut de 60 mètres, large de 55 mètres à sa base, il retient les eaux de la Creuse. " Le journal dévoilait la maquette d'un "train mû par une hélice comme un avion", œuvre d'un ingénieur suisse qui espérait ainsi atteindre 300 km. à l'heure. L'appareil de TSF "radiociné" coûtait 1540 francs, mais il était possible de l'acheter pout 160 francs, et le reste en 12 mensualités de 110 francs. Garantie 1 an. On pouvait se procurer l'appareil dans la succursale "radiociné" de Blois, 20 rue du commerce. La "Nouvelle République" du 20 octobre 2014 pose la question de la rupture du barrage. "Dans l'éventualité où le barrage d'Éguzon venait à rompre, un système d'alerte vient d'être mis en place pour assurer la sécurité de la population des 21 communes qui pourraient risquer " une inondation à cinétique rapide ".
