"If you like character and history this is the place for you. However, if you like shiny new things that glean with stainless steel and glass this is not for you. My wife and I stayed one night on our way from Kamloops to Vancouver airport. We had driven past Chilliwack a number of times and finally decided to check it out. The Royal Hotel is much more interesting than the generic accommodations you get near the airport. It is a step back into the past, with a lobby that is almost unchanged from its 1908 beginnings. There are lots of fascinating original furnishings, and one imagines all the feet that have trodden the original floors. This would not be the place for the Holiday Inn ("no surprises") kind of guest as there is a feeling of being lived in but that was part of the hotel's charm for us. We arrived quite late, and rang the bell to be admitted by a very friendly concierge we could call on at any time. Linens, towels and the room were clean. The floor was creaky, the bath was actually in the bedroom and you could almost hear the ghosts in the attic. We loved all that character. It's situated slap in the middle of the downtown which is charming with great care taken in restoring the old buildings. When we were there (June 2024) the restaurant was closed awaiting a new tenant so we enjoyed our breakfast at the Uptown Grill in the restored downtown instead. "

"We travelled with a group of 7 people, including my 88 year old mom with mobility issues. If you are traveling with anyone with mobility issues, this house is great. There are 2 short steps (with a post to hang onto) to enter the house. The walk from parking the car on the street to the front door has a short sloped walkway (we were able to navigate this easily with her walker). Once inside, the living room, dining room, kitchen and laundry are all on the main floor. What sold it for us was the bedroom and bathroom on the main floor…this was perfect for my elderly mom. A grab bar beside that toilet would have been helpful, but we managed. The 3 bedrooms upstairs (and 2 full baths) were clean and spacious. Check in and checkout were very easy and the host responded to my text messages promptly. The main fridge was out of order, but they had a second fridge in the kitchen. One small issue was that the second fridge didn’t have an ice maker, and no ice trays available. We went to the dollar store and bought ice cube trays, so we had ice to use (and we left those ice cube trays there when we left so future people will have ice). The beds were all comfortable with plenty of pillows for everyone. Overall, this was a great experience and I would highly recommend it for others (especially if traveling with the elderly)."

"We stayed with our three grandchildren and our daughter stayed one night! They were so happy to have their own room. The space very clean, well stocked with thoughtful personal care items. I love the fact they recycle and provide detail directions to do so."

"This hotel offers clean rooms with comfortable beds. It will become the hotel I go to in Chilliwack, BC from now on. The description said they include breakfast, but in fact only Saturdays and Sundays, not on weekdays. I hoped they had communicated that better. Knowing that, I still think it is a nice hotel."
