• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to poor circulation, so do some gentle leg and foot exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression tights or socks.

The trick is to be well organized before you reach the security gate. That way, you'll be stepping onto that plane to La Conception in a flash. Follow these tips and get your trip off to a great start:

• First things first. Your ID and travel documents will need to be presented to airport security personnel. Keep them at hand so you don't have to dig around for them.
