During the early morning hours, it is absolutely serene and blissful. This is also a good spot for astrophotography, although I haven't indulged in that personally yet. Fall colors at the lake are just magical. There's also lots and lots of hiking paths and trails all over. Grandfather Mountain, The Mile High Swinging Bridge, Rough Ridge, The Linn Cove Viaduct are all nearby. I echo 100% the comfort of the beds. It right in the middle of Blowing Rock, directly across a small drive from the Blowing Rock Brewing Company (Restaurant there as well). My boys (10, 13, 14, 16) and I spent the night and hit up App Ski the next morning. My wife didn't make the trip, too bad, she would have been soooo impressed with me picking this spot.
