During the early morning hours, it is absolutely serene and blissful. This is also a good spot for astrophotography, although I haven't indulged in that personally yet. Fall colors at the lake are just magical. There's also lots and lots of hiking paths and trails all over. Grandfather Mountain, The Mile High Swinging Bridge, Rough Ridge, The Linn Cove Viaduct are all nearby.
