I can honestly say that I won’t be staying at The Coal Exchange again. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing from the moment I entered the room. The room looked completely different from the photographs shown online when I made the booking. I appreciate that hotel rooms can sometimes look slightly different in person, but the difference in this case was quite significant and the overall condition of the room was nowhere near what I had expected. The first thing I noticed was the strong smell of cigarette smoke in the room. This was particularly unpleasant and made the room feel unclean and uncomfortable. I then tried to open the window to get some fresh air, only to be extremely shocked by what I saw when I did so. There were cobwebs around the room, as well as various stains, which added to the impression that the room had not been properly cleaned or maintained. The carpet also looked as though it had not been hoovered properly, which again made the room feel far from the standard I was expecting. The bathroom was another major disappointment. The toilet seat was loose, and there was a noticeable damp smell coming from the toilet area. The sink took an extremely long time to drain, which was frustrating and certainly not something I would expect from a hotel room. I was informed two days before my arrival that the property I had booked had a maintenance issue, and I was offered a different property instead. Although the location was not ideal for my purpose, I had to accept it given the short notice. I was then sent the check-in instructions, but they included only the property name and not the full address. The postal code directed us to a different location. On a rainy night, the Uber driver could not find the property, and we had to call the property management's emergency number before finally obtaining the correct address. The property itself was nice and clean, but the check-in process was poorly handled and caused unnecessary frustration.
