Woodard House

Woodard House
2.5 star property
Prenton
4.8 out of 10, (8 reviews)
"This is not a Hotel, this is basically an AirB&B with escalated prices for a room with shared bathroom and shared also with owner. The owner was nice enough but we paid £97 for night (not worth it) compared to £65 at Ibis hotel in Liverpool (Albert Docks) - air conditioning, own bathroom and much more comfort. This ‘Hotels.com’ need to vet what people are offering. I am actually quite offended by what I was offered and will now use other sites to book ACTUAL hotels! "

Frequently asked questions

How much does a budget hotel in Birkenhead cost?
Budget hotel prices in Birkenhead vary, but you can find a great deal from CA $96 on Expedia. To find the cheapest budget hotels, be flexible with your dates—typically, off-peak and mid-week stays are cheaper. Stretch your budget further by looking for hotels with free breakfast, free parking or free airport shuttles. Sort your search results by "Price: low to high" to see our lowest rates.
Which area of Birkenhead is best to stay in for cheap hotels?
For budget-conscious solo travellers seeking affordable accommodation in Birkenhead, the areas around Hamilton Square and the town centre are generally the best options. These locations offer a good selection of budget hotels and guesthouses, often within walking distance of public transport links.

Hamilton Square, with its impressive Georgian architecture, provides a pleasant setting and is well-connected to Liverpool via the Merseyrail train network, making it convenient for exploring both Birkenhead and its larger neighbour without incurring high transport costs. Solo travellers can enjoy strolls around the square and easily access local eateries.

The main town centre area also features several independent hotels and B&Bs that cater to a range of budgets. Here, you'll be close to local shops, the Pyramids Shopping Centre, and the Birkenhead Market, where you can find inexpensive food options.
When is the most affordable time to visit Birkenhead?
The most affordable time to visit Birkenhead is generally during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), outside of school holidays. During these periods, you'll often find better deals on accommodation and travel, as the peak summer crowds have dispersed, but the weather remains pleasant enough for exploring.

For solo travellers, visiting mid-week during these months can yield even greater savings on hotels and transport, as demand is typically lower. Many of Birkenhead's attractions, like the Birkenhead Park or the Hamilton Square area, are free to explore, allowing you to enjoy the town's heritage without spending a fortune.

If you're really looking to tighten the purse strings, the winter months (November to March, excluding the Christmas period) can be the absolute cheapest for accommodation. While the weather might be colder and some outdoor activities less appealing, indoor attractions like the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum or the U-Boat Story are still excellent, free options.
Is Birkenhead a budget-friendly destination?
Yes, Birkenhead is a budget-friendly destination, offering excellent value for travellers looking to explore the Wirral Peninsula and its surroundings without breaking the bank.

Couples and solo travellers will find that accommodation, dining, and activities in Birkenhead are generally much more affordable than in larger nearby cities. For instance, staying in areas like Oxton or Prenton can provide comfortable and reasonably priced options. The town is also well-connected by public transport, with frequent train and bus services making it easy to get around and access Liverpool for a day trip without the higher costs of staying there.

Many of Birkenhead's attractions are free or offer low-cost entry. You can enjoy a stroll through Birkenhead Park, the inspiration for New York's Central Park, or explore the historic Birkenhead Priory, which often has free admission. The Williamson Art Gallery and Museum also provides a cultural experience without a hefty price tag. For dining, local pubs and cafes offer hearty meals at very reasonable prices, superb for a satisfying and inexpensive evening out.

For solo travellers, a stroll along the waterfront is a must. The Wirral Way, a disused railway line, offers picturesque views of the Dee Estuary and is great for a peaceful walk or cycle. You could also visit the Hamilton Square conservation area, home to more Grade I listed buildings than anywhere outside London, offering a glimpse into Victorian architecture.

Families will appreciate the expansive Birkenhead Park, the world's first publicly funded park and a model for New York's Central Park. It offers wide-open spaces for children to play, beautiful lakes, and walking paths. Another fantastic free option is a visit to the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum, which houses an impressive collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, local history exhibits, and a fascinating display of Merseyside pottery. They often have family-friendly events and workshops, too.

Finally, consider a walk through the bustling Birkenhead Market, where you can soak up the local atmosphere and browse a wide array of stalls, even if you're just window shopping.
Is it cheaper to book flights and a hotel in Birkenhead as a package?
