A modern, cosy, ocean-front, beach (rock) acces Cottage
The Sleeping Moose Cottage is located on the North Shore of Cape Breton Island, 8 km south of Cape Smokey, between the Cape Breton Highlands National Park (25 km) and the town of Baddeck (65 km) on the Bras d'Or Lakes.
The North Shore, originally settled by Scots in the early 1800s, is now home to lots of moose, a crab and lobster fishery (May - July), as well as many fine artisans and crafters.
From the deck of the Sleeping Moose Cottage you might see whales and seals, for sure ocean birds, and 'our' Bald Eagle who does a 'fly-by' a couple of times a day. Walk to our pebble beach and enjoy the beautiful view and sometimes-loud silence of the waves hitting the pebbles.
There are lots of hiking and snowshoeing trails in and outside the National Park, and if you like golf... Highland Links is a beautiful 25-minute drive away.
The Sleeping Moose is a housekeeping cottage with a full kitchen, but it is conveniently located on the same property as the Dancing Moose Cafe. It serves unusual breakfasts and lunches bilt around Dutch Pannekoeken (stuffed pancakes), Belgian waffles, a daily soup, and baked treats, all made from scratch in our own kitchen.
We are an all-season accommodation. Start your day watching the sun rise over the ocean. Then, spend a lazy summer's eve on your private deck watching the stars come out. Light a cosy fire in your wood stove on chilly evenings, or in winter when snow has changed the landscape. On rainy days, enjoy a free movie or a bit of surfing with our free wireless Internet.

We loved warming up by the wood fire after our days skiing at Cape Smokey. The view of the ocean was lovely. It was nice to have the kitchen for cooking our own evening meals. Wifi worked well.
We loved our stay at the Sleeping Moose cottage. The picnic table on the cliff above the ocean was perfect. Thank you Ton! It was a lovely 3 nites and your breakfasts were a great way to start our day!
The cabin we stayed at was private with beautiful views of the ocean. We enjoyed watching the seals in the morning and evening at our own overlook with coffee or wine. The host, Ton, was friendly, welcoming and makes a great pannenkoeken for breakfast if you choose to eat at his restaurant. Overall a great start to our vacation and a good base for exploring Cape Breton.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Sleeping Moose cabin. Ton was an excellent host and having his restaurant on site was a fantastic addition to our trip. The Pannekoek is delicious!! The cabin had all the basics we needed and the view and the sound of the waves was incredibly relaxing. It’s a great jumping off place for exploring Highland National Park and a great place to relax after a long day on the trails. Thanks Ton!
The week we stayed at the Sleeping Moose was extremely hot however Ton provided 2 fans which made it somewhat more livable. If you’re planning a visit, don’t forget insect repellent! The Cabot Trail is truly beautiful & Ton’s restaurant, The Dancing Moose was great.
Thoroughly enjoyed our 5 night break at the Sleeping Moose. Cabin was ideal for our needs, adequately equipped, very comfortable beds and lovely location with super view out to the ocean - picnic table ideally placed for this also. The Dancing Moose cafe serves great food as well. All in all certainly recommend a stay here.
Very comfortable and clean cabin with cozy atmosphere. Kitchen facilities were great, bed was super comfortable, living room area very nice. Lovely to be close to Atlantic ocean and beautiful sunrises. Tasty breakfasts and lunches at the nearby Dancing Moose Cafe. A little bit of a haul over Smoky Mt. to reach Inverness & Cape Breton Highlands National Park, but it's a stunning ride overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
The cabin was lovely and provided everything we needed and wanted for our stay. Ton was a charming host and the breakfast at the Dancing Moose was a highlight.
Beautiful location to tour the Cabot trail and Cape Breton Island. House has everything you need, great fire pit out back. Coffee with a view of the ocean. The chickens are an added treat!
Easy process booking! We were running behind schedule in our 15 hour trek to Cape Breton. Ton was super accommodating. The location is perfect for what we wanted. The property was gorgeous and Ton makes amazing Dutch pancakes. A super week in such a beautiful place. We will be back.
Ton provides a perfect setting to get away and enjoy the beauty of the Cabot Trail. He was kind enough to provide us with a meal on his day off! The cottage was clean and provided everything needed to enjoy and relax. Thanks again, Ton!

Great place to stay!
This is a very nice place to stay with everything you could need. We loved the short walk to the ocean every morning to watch the sunrise. We even saw seals almost everyday. Tom was a wonderful host and a great cook. He even helped us out with our flat tire. There were 4 adults staying in this house and it never felt crowded. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone that is interested in exploring Cape Brenton National Park. Thank you Tom for everything!

Rustic Modern Combination
We stayed here for 2 nights on a fall trip to Cape Breton. The cottage was a fantastic blend of rustic and modern, well layed out and well stocked. We loved the ocean sunrise view both from the oversized sliding glass doors and from the picnic table at the ocean. An added touch was our chicken neighbours. Ton makes a great breakfast and is a friendly host. We highly recommend!

Peaceful!
We had a great time at the Cottage in Wreck Cove! Simple place but had all the conveniences we needed. Just walk to the
ocean or breakfast/lunch at the restaurant. The chickens roamed around the property, were cute to watch! walked for miles by the ocean
not a sandy beach rocks, rocks and more rocks but still nice. We had a campfire our last night and watched the stars. Just down right nice and peaceful. Definitely would go back.

Cozy, comfortable and peaceful retreat
My husband, small dog and I recently spent three nights here. The rustic cottage was clean, well-cared-for, and well-supplied. We were impressed with its very efficient layout and how well-built it was. Everything was in excellent working order, and we enjoyed a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The views at the nearby rocky shore were spectacular. We used this cottage as a base from which to explore the Cabot Trail by car and the Cape Breton Highlands National Park on foot. We went on a whale watch out of Bay St. Lawrence and saw whales, seals, an ocean sunfish and incredible geologic formations. We attended a ceilidh one evening in a nearby church and enjoyed an intimate acoustic concert of traditional Cape Breton folk music. We enjoyed our breakfast of Dutch "pannekoeken" at Ton and Yvonne's Dancing Moose Cafe so much that we returned another morning for more. Our host was friendly and helpful, and made sure we felt welcomed. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and would heartily recommend it to others.
