Overall awesome location and cool aesthetic.. However our sheets were not clean the night we arrived and there were multiple geckos and millipedes in our room throughout the stay. Additionally the noise level of South Congress made for restless nights.

Beautiful (but pricey) sanctuary!

Hotel San Jose is a beautiful sanctuary in a great part of Austin! The entire hotel is very well appointed. I stayed here with my Mom for my last night in Austin before moving out of the city. We woke up and went on a nice walk along the water and then went swimming in the little pool before heading out of town. Not bad! The only downside is the price - it's expensive.

Nice hotel but can do better

We had a room at a quite expensive rate for one night on a Friday. At check in, we were told that we were upgraded to a better room ad that is true that the room was really nice. However, some things to know: - We had a room service breakfast that was originally presented, but quite average in quality - Our room was looking over the pool and the bar area and it was pretty noisy up to 12 at night.

Southwest minimalist

This is a beautiful hotel - both indoors and outdoors. I didn't realize there was such a style as Southwest minimalist, but the Hotel San Jose fits the description. My companion and I are older than most guests, but we were never bothered by the noise, despite a nearby festival.

Not your typical place...

Very unique, hip and boutiquish place. Minimalist in design, rooms have polished concrete floors, modest appointments, and smallish but sufficient space. Clean and comfortable. Central among the rooms is an outdoor area with tables, heaters/fire pit, and small outdoor pool. In the evening fires are lit (or heaters) and drinks are served until midnight (i.e., if you're an early to bed and/or light sleeper, request a room away from the courtyard). After the last couple hundred typical hotel rooms I quite enjoyed this change of pace, and it's very consistent with the "keep Austin weird" (or maybe just unique) philosophy.

Great place to get a true local Austin experience.

If you're into minimalist approach to decor, then the San Jose is the hotel. Located in the coolest part of Austin, you can walk to all sorts of great haunts. The pillow could've been more comfortable, though.

Interesting and comfortable place

Very "hip" hotel. lot's of stuff to do within walking distance and about a $7.00 cab ride to sixth street for a night of great music, food and drinks. Room was small but the bed was very comfortable. My wife and I had a room near the back of the hotel so the street noise at night was not an issue. She was not thrilled with the room becasue it had a concrete floor, I thought it gave it a certain charm, It reminded me alot of hotels I have stayed at in and around the East Cape of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. The grounds are well maintained and very beautiful. The porch in front of our room was a great place to hang out, read and drink a beer. The courtyard outside of the office was a great place to go for an after dinner glass of wine or beer.

Very cool place, but noisy

The San Jose is a beautifully designed boutique hotel in a very lively, funky area of town. The staff there is great. The problems we had with our stay were that the room lacked sufficient sound insulation and the furniture, while very attractive, wasn't very comfortable.

RIGHT ON

FABULOUS!!!. We immensely enjoyed our stay. There was quite a bit going on at all times yet the design and layout of the hotel allowed for so much intimacy and privacy. The gardens are beautiful and the aroma of all the blooming flowers will stick with me forever. Great location.
