"Bright, spacious older cottage with a large grassy lawn. Quiet location. Stunning night sky. Excellent Wi-Fi. We liked the house. A few things to note: You cannot see or hear the ocean from the house. “Walk to the beach” in the title of the listing is a bit of a stretch. The house faces a river estuary. To access the beach you must swim or paddle a kayak or surfboard for about 75-100 meters across the estuary, then walk through mangroves and dunes on the other side. At mid-tide the river is mostly knee/waist deep, but in the middle it was deeper than my kayak paddle. We kayaked across the estuary but never found access through the mangrove thickets on the other side (the house book had directions, we just couldn't find it). So, this way to the beach is not going to work for children or granny, or on a cooler day when you don’t want to get wet. Otherwise, it’s a half-hour walk along the road to the beach at Waipu Cove. The spa had a lot of sand in it and the water was gray/brown so we didn’t use it. The only light in the main bedroom is a bare light bulb hanging from the ceiling."

"Had a lovely stay here with my fur baby. The house was immaculately clean and well presented. The covered deck was really great and I spent most of the time I was there sitting out there. The beach is just a very short walk thru the reserve and is absolutely stunning. We had some good swims and walks. The facilities in the house were good. Lounge is very comfy and welcoming. Lots of outdoor furniture to while away the time on. Thanks very much Carrie. "

"Compared to other "Bach" stays, this one requires you to provide your own linens and towels. House hasn't been updated, and had a very rustic feel. Not what we were expecting. "

"This has been the best BookaBach stay we've had in many years. A beautiful cottage in the middle of the country. The beds were so comfortable, the kitchen fully stocked-amazing. The art work, done by the hosts told very real stories which resonated with me. If you're wanting a quiet stay, 25 minutes south of Whangarei, make this your No 1 choice."
