Cozy and comfortable wooded cabin

"Lovely hosts, even had fresh flowers. The views of animals and birds from the massive windows were amazing! Such a peaceful retreat, yet shopping and restaurants not far away.Many little touches, including half and half for coffee waiting in the fridge, are so appreciated. Plenty of supplies in the kitchen for preparing a gourmet meal and storing leftovers!Had so much going on that I forgot to sign the guest book! Hope to come back soon!"

"Traveling with my brother, who is disabled can be very difficult for us. The lady at the front desk was extremely helpful. Unfortunately this hotel does not offer a 2 queen suite wheelchair accessible with a roll in shower. The first room was not going to work due to it having a tub/shower and they only had 1 shower bench available for guests, that was already being used. She walked with me to look at a few choices. My brother had a hard time getting into the bathroom, it was not handicap accessible, and the room was very small for him to try to get around in it. The wheelchair lift for the pool and the spa are broken. I was told by maintenance, they've been broken for a long time. It was extremely frustrating fory brother, he has a hard time understanding why its always the disabled people that have to go without when traveling. We will not be staying here for our yearly trip next year. Like I said its very challenging for us to travel, I try to make our trip as easy on both of us as possible."

"All I needed was a good, clean bed for the night in a room that was in a convenient, easy to access location at a great price, and The Northern Queen in provided in spades! After checking in with the helpful staff, I was treated to a nice, newly remodeled room, that was clean and easy to access. It was exactly what I wanted! Parking was plentiful and lovely nestled amongst the pines and sequoia of the Sierra Foothills. I didn't use the restaurant, only because I was stopping through town and leaving early, but next time I come to either Grass Valley or Nevada City (conveniently located close to both!) I will check it out!"

Clair Tappaan Lodge

10/10 Excellent

"A little slice of heaven in the mountains. I haven’t stayed during ski season but this lodge is part of the Sierra Club. I stayed towards end of spring/early summer and found this to be a beautiful lodge with every amenity a weekend camper or van lifer would need. They have clean bathrooms, a beautiful main room to hangout in, a kitchen room with fridge and microwave (I believe the original kitchen is no longer available unless they have events or food plans running for ski season). Breakfast was included as well and the host was very friendly! There are local hiking trails and it’s only a 10 minute drive to Donner Lake."
