"Went whale watching and got soaked. Hotel really needs a washer and dryer on the property. Hot water takes for ever to come out when taking a shower and dont get me started on the water pressure!"

"It's not every day you get to stay in a home that was built in 1895. Yes the floors are a bit slanted and the toilet is super low to the ground - it's all part of the charm. Easy walk to cute downtown Capitola. Super quiet neighborhood and well maintained property. Breakfast was brought to us at exactly the time we had requested. We will be back."

"What a delightful surprise the Wayside Inn has been! Lovely, spacious, updated room comfortably appointed, and with great beds and pillows. It’s in a terrific location, close to everything, but quiet, too. We got a restful nights sleep before hitting the stores and restaurants. I will definitely stay here on my next visit to Carmel and will also recommend this wonderful hotel to my friends. "

"The bed was comfortable. The room and bathroom were clean. The yogurt and fruit parfait at breakfast was nice as well as the home baked cookies at night. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and a gorgeous walk along Monterey Bay is only two blocks away. The building however is on the historic register and over 130 years old. The floors creek and the walls are thin. The other breakfast items (bagels, small muffins and pastries, coffee, etc) are meh. But the price was right."

"Location is great! Easy to get to Monterey, 17 Mile Drive, and Carmel. Love that this hotel has big rooms for the family. Nice that there isn’t a resort fee or parking fees. The pullout couch/bed looked a bit dusty- we were able to cover it with bedsheets- and it was a great extra bed for the kids."

"The Briarwood Inn has a cozy stay in store for you! I stayed in room 44 on the second floor. I enjoyed the spacious room with a love seat, club chair, and a wall fireplace which made this room warm and cozy. The sheets and pillows on the kingsize bed were comfortable and ensured my good night's sleep. The large bathroom vanity and shower are bright and make me feel right at home. "The hotel was a lovely escape from the bustle of downtown noise. Loved the location. Not super familiar with the area surrounding the hotel. The ac unit needs to be turned on through the actual unit and not through the system in the wall. "

"Its a nicely appointed clean and lovely location and room. However, there are 2 flights of stairs to navigate so its not for anyone who has trouble with stairs. The property may have other rooms with no stairs (on the lower floor) but I can't confirm that. Otherwise it was great location, we also ate in their restaurant and the food was excellent"
