"Convenient to convention center"
Elevators are very slow with a 5 minute or longer wait for an elevator to show up. I suspect because they had only one or two of the four turned on. Room security is a problem because they have a very small, flimsy chain that falls out of its track if tugged even gently. Ironically, they use a very good one on the door that is used to connect neighboring rooms. For about a third of my 4 day stay, the internet connection in the room would either not connect or would drop within 5 minutes. One morning I stayed in my room until 11am working. When I left, there was a housecleaning cart still in front of one of the rooms but when I returned at 6pm, my room had not been made up.

"Nice hotel within walking distance of everything"
We stayed for 2 nights. Valet staff and service were prompt and professional, check-in was a breeze with very polite and knowledgeable staff. No problems with the elevators. Our rooms were nice and spacious. Overall pretty clean, although I'm not sure if they changed our sheets after the first night.. The double king rooms came with a fridge and microwave. The bed was comfy and the TV's worked fine. The fitness centre was 24hrs and decently equipped with newer treadmills and ellipticals, a couple of free weights, medicine balls, 2 benches, matts and a universal machine. Just be creative and you can get a decent workout in. Theres also a water cooler and washrooms so bring a water bottle to fill up or use the paper cups they provide. Great location to everything and they have a Starbucks and a restaurant on the main floor so if you need coffee first thing in the morning, it's pretty convenient. Would definitely recommend this hotel again!

"The Ren Center is iconic and worthy of a stay. "
I was in town for the marathon. Building is old, AC doesn't work well, noise from neighboring rooms can be heard, no pool or jacuzzi for fitness. Still, it is an icon and I will stay there again. Volt Restaurant in the hotel is very nice and comfortable, good food and service, reasonable prices. Happy Hour on the 72nd flr is worth noting.

"Charming, older hotel in Detroit"
This was our second year staying at the Hotel St. Regis. The hotel isn't really comparable to a modern facility. It has beautiful old world charm and architecture. My biggest criteria when choosing a place to stay is cleanliness, bed bug reports and price. We were in town for beerfest, not to lounge at the pool or sit at their bar. The Hotel St. Regis was cheaper than any of the other big names in town by $50-100. I like that they have parking at a reasonable rate ($20/per night) and I can get my car out as many times as needed. The hotel is in need of some TLC and it looks like they're trying to keep it up. There were signs of recently repaired walls & ceilings. Our room had some blemishes in the wall paper and the tub could use a new round of caulk. The carpet in the hall needed attention...but none of this impacted our comfort there. We had an issue with hot water. They couldn't immediately remedy the issue, but the staff made sure we were satisfied with the outcome. It's not the Westin, but I also didn't pay Westin prices. The bed was comfortable. We got a good night's sleep and the staff were friendly. We will look at staying again next year. I'm not sure we'd eat in the restaurant again. We were the only two diners in the room and a business meeting in a private room. It took a very, very long time to get our food. It wasn't the greatest breakfast I've had. For what's available close by, we would probably eat somewhere else.

"For the design-concious modern traveller "
Love the decor. I'm not a lover of expensive traditional dark wood suites. I much prefer unique and design-savvy spaces that are affordable enough to travel more frequently. Reminds me of The Ace locations I've stayed at in London and NYC, plus The Drake in Toronto.

Roberts Riverwalk Urban Resort Hotel

1000 River Place Dr, Detroit - Map
The hotel is a very cool 114 year old building that has been renovated yet maintains a lot of character and detail. Additionally it is on the riverfront and has a great views if you are facing the water. That being said, the overall experience is underwhelming. If the property could easily be considered a four star hotel - the staff, service and clientele is a two star at best.
