![Whittinghame Church in the Parish of Traprain. The present church at Whittinghame (pron. with soft g and silent h) was greatly rebuilt in 1722 on the site of a church erected in 1225 to replace a 7th century church, at nearby Luggate Burn, dedicated by St. Cuthbert, the Apostle of the Lothians. Many famous men have been laid to rest in this historic place including the 1st Earl Balfour of Whittinghame, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The battlements of this fine church are reminiscent more of churches in Dorset and Somerset, stand aloft on high ground in the tiny parish. It is situated near Whitinghame House and the 16th century Tower. Would highly recommend this place. There is a train station in East Linton and only takes 20 minutes away so it’s perfect for a wee day or evening out in Edinburgh if you don’t want to stay in the city itself. »

« A 200 year old pub and inn - interesting ! Unfortunately our room was fairly horrible, we definitely got the hotels.com room : 200 year old mattress, wall view, kitchen vents under the window and lots of noise when we (or the neighbours) ran any water. Food in the evening was good and breakfast ok (very dingy dining room). Everything needs an overhaul. The staff were great though ! »

"Très bel hôtel (fidèle à la photo), dans la campagne et entouré d'un magnifique parc tout en étant proche d'Edimbourg en voiture. Par contre les deux chambres que nous avons eues étaient petites avec un aménagement succinct qui n'avait rien à voir avec les photos."
