My wife and I stayed here our first night in Tokyo and it did not disappoint. The are has really wonderful night life and is located only 15 minute JR train ride from Shinjuku. Friendly and helpful staff. Note that this hotel is a bit different, though, as there is not really any front desk staff present at all times. We arrived in the morning at 11am when the email said we could drop our stuff but there was nobody there to take our stuff and guide us but rather just a lockbox to enter and drop our stuff in a common room. Similarly when we left there is nobody to check out with or anything. Fun. It's nice to have drink in a laid-back bar with unusually good tunes, and then go through the back door to your room, having the bartender tell you to sleep well. Sleeping on top of the bar wasn't any problem, but earplugs were even provided just in case. They did come in handy though, because you get a lot of noise coming in from the street, but we were charmed enough by the murial in the room and the awesome staff to think it ok. We were there for a total of 4 nights. At first, it was different enough from the Marriott (no TV, small elevator) to be a shock. By the end of the fourth night we decided that if we were ever in Tokyo again, this would be where we stayed. The hotel is basically across the street from Koenji station and consists of a bar and two hotel rooms: the bar is on the ground floor and the rooms are in the two storeys above the bar. The location is central in Koenji and you feel like you are part of the community. The staff are extremely helpful and you feel like you are living in the "real" Tokyo rather than the business district where the Marriott was. Koenji itself is a very interesting area filled with small shops and restaurants, and generally with friendly and helpful people. By the end of the fourth day we were reluctant to leave because we had been enjoying ourselves so much.
