« We always stay at the Gateway Hotel when visiting Ames. The location is right off highway 30 and close to ISU. We appreciate that they’re dog friendly and only charge $50 per stay, up to one week. This last stay we were disappointed that the coffee offered in the lobby was empty both mornings and it seemed the lady at the desk could not be bothered to make more. « Had bugs in the room, staff was not friendly at check in, she acted like I was bothering her for coming in. In the morning I left the keys in the room and my daughter left her phone so had to go to desk and get a new key … nobody was manning the desk. I waited 25 minutes, ringing the bell, calling the desk nobody around, yelled “does anyone work here” I finally had to walk down the hall to breakfast room and yelled for someone in there for a key. « We travelled to Iowa for a weekend stay. All 4 of us loved the convenient location. Breakfast included was a big plus. Staff was great and hotel was clean »

« It is in a fantastic location for families visiting ISU, we however had some yucky rooms with some maintenance issues. A toilet that kept us up all night as it continued to run, I also believe that because of that there was maybe a prior flooding issue as the corner near the TV had a damp rid box set up and the carpet was wet, the room also had a musty smell. « The staff were very friendly and helpful, my son loved the pool and we enjoyed the hot tub. Waffles, sausage, eggs and others for breakfast, we couldn't have had a better stay! »

« The room was clean and quiet. I had an excellent night's sleep. Breakfast was fairly standard; hard boiled eggs, cereal, make your own waffle, juice, yogurt etc. The staff did an excellent job replenishing food and cleaning the Breakfast area. »

« Every staff member that we encountered went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The water bottles on check in and rice Krispies for the kids on check out definitely made for huge smiles. My only complaints would be that breakfast was cold and dry on our first morning and the pool was cold. »

« The room was adequate, dated and clean but not a deep clean due to the age. The breakfast nook was the worst I have ever walked into. It was dirty and the appliances were dirty. I got a sealed yougart and left. From what I could tell the quality of the food was very low. »

« The facility was wonderful however the front desk staff was not. We were first told we did not have a room and then had to find someone to help her. Not professional at all! The pool was out of towels I asked the same front desk person for a towel she begrudgingly got one for me but added "we have a towel shortage". Front desk staff in need of customer service training both in behavior and appearance! »

« They were defrosting refrigerator of our room. Frig stuffed with towels. We mentioned this was bothersome and they said they could move us but the asked if we had used the bathroom and acted that if we had it would need to be recleaned so we never moved. Came back later to find water all over floor and they gave us towels to clean it up ourselves. »
