Bad experience. Door closed, call emercency no, learned that I have been transferred to ABBA INN on Queen's Road ?? again door locked & no enveloppe with the keys for the door and for the room, long wait outside on the street, lost my evening waiting for help, finally a russian person gave me a key for room 6 in ABBA INN.
We've stayed at a 'sister' guest house previously, and were very satisfied, so expected the same here. 131 Bond has good location (walking distance to everything downtown). However the rest was lousy.
One bed was so lumpy it was unuseable; the 2nd bed was on a broken bedframe (which we were able to fix by taking off the mattress and put the frame back together; good thing we're ok with just one bed). No screens on windows, so opening up for fresh air wasn't a real option. Neither TV nor WiFi worked & texts to the cell # were never answered. Their were no bathroom supplies, including soap; we found a 2nd roll of TP in the kitchen. Room appeared presentable, but clearly hadn't been vacuumed in a while. Kitchen was marginally furnished with pots and dishes. Was not happy.
And experienced first-hand of worse for a fellow traveller.
There was no one to welcome un upon arrival. the key for my room was in the mailbox, but ths was not mentioned in the reservation; I had to ask a neighbor. the sofa was damaged: 1 leg missing. Hard to find: There is no sign about an hotel or B&B at the door, only a street address,

Great location, poor room quality/experience
Spent one night here out of the 5 nights we were in NL. Room had a funky toilet cleaner smell. One very small window out of the many in our room would open, so we weren't able to air it out well. Off-site attendance was fine until we wanted to relax and watch some TV for the first time on our trip and it wouldn't work - call for help heeded no results. Beds were the equivalent quality of old pull out couches, and you had to lay close to the sides or you'd roll into the long pit in the middle.
Location was great, short walk to shops, Tims, the water, and right amongst the traditional St. John's homes we wanted to wee. .
That being said, I wouldn't stay here again. This place did not compare to much better quality, similarly/lower priced accommodations a tad further from amenities.
Keys were left in the mailbox, that was reception and I had to call to find that out. One bed was dipped in the middle. Strong smell like mothballs or urinal cake. Bedding heavily perfumed. Used soap in the shower. I laid the towels on the bed and slept on them. Grateful it was one night

Quiet good location
Good price, room 5 was large with 2 beds table and chairs. Large common kitchen area. Beds worn and mattresses uncomfortable. No air conditioning but fans in room and kitchen so not a problem. Very quiet. Free parking right at front door. Only one large towel in room and could not get extra.
Great place to sleep at. Close to downtown. Don't expect any service, our TV didn't work and we called several times, but no help. But if you are ok taking care of yourself, it's really good. Good value for money.
I rate the hotel staff as "OK" because they are off-site and mostly unavailable except by telephone. That was OK with me because I did not need help from the staff.

I was happy to find that the property is quite clean, maybe freshly painted, and outfitted with comfortable furniture. It has a laminate floor that looks like new.
---
I didn't use the kitchen for anything except to place some things in the refrigerator to keep them cold. The refrigerator looks new. The kitchen has a dishwasher.
---
It's a plus that this property has parking space available behind the building. Much of the time, it could fit three vehicles. I believe one or more of the owners or staff drive taxis because sometimes one taxi and sometimes two were parked there during the day. Parking also is available in front of the building but it's not exclusive to the property. Parking in the rest of the block is reserved for people who have permits.
---
The Wi-Fi worked well and has reasonable speed. Whether speed measurements are accurate is debatable, but I found it measured at 5 Mbps download and 1.5 Mbps upload, perfectly adequate for my purposes.
---
The property is a short walk from The Rooms, a large museum that is worth a day's visit, and at least an hour and a half, and from the Basilica of St. John's, a tourist attraction.
---
A telephone in the common area is available for local calls.

This was a good place to stay.
