"The service at the Grill was utterly chaotic, with items delivered out of order or not at all until servers (there were several, and it was never clear whether anyone was in charge) were reminded. The food at the Grill was unremarkable at best. Service, food, and prices were much better at the bakery."

"This is the North Shore’s best kept secret. It’s a very nice hotel with a terrific staff. Kids love the pool, too! This hotel is directly in the heart of the North Shore and is a great jumping off point to Grand Marais, the Gunflint Trail, the Splitrock Lighthouse and more. So many places overcharge for their stays, but this place is priced right for families. A very friendly convenience store is adjacent and you can see the lake right from the hotel. Breakfast is pretty good too and you have many options to choose from. Don’t be a sucker and book at an overpriced resort, this is what you need."

"The self check in was so easy and convenient. Many places to eat right within the surrounding couple blocks, and could listen to some live music from a neighboring establishment while sitting outside the room reading a book and enjoying the harbor view. I travel a lot and that was one of the better mattress and pillow combos I’ve had this year; tip of the cap!"

"We stayed at Motel Ely for a couple of nights while on a quick sightseeing trip to Ely. Even though the motel is right on the Main thoroughfare through town, it is quiet. Ownership is friendly and always helpful. I always prefer the Mom and Pop motels and this one gets 5 stars."
