Artwork, sculptures and spectacular coastal views make this one of Lima’s most picturesque parks and a favoured rendezvous for romantic couples.
The cliff top Parque del Amor is dedicated to lovers and occupies a beautiful position overlooking the Bay of Lima and the Pacific Ocean. It opened on Valentine’s Day in 1993 and is popular with couples, especially at sunset. Come here for the spectacular views, to see some fascinating public art and to relax.
Sit down on one of the lawns or the amphitheater-style seating and gaze out across the Pacific. The view includes Lima’s coastline and the cliffs of Chorillos. The vistas are remarkable at any time of day, but particularly when the sun is going down.
At the heart of the park is a sculpture entitled El Beso (The Kiss) by Peruvian artist Victor Delfín. It depicts two lovers locked in a romantic embrace. Check out the long curving bench that has been decorated with mosaics and romantic phrases by Peruvian poets. The seating area is very similar to the multicolored mosaic work by Antoni Gaudí at Park Güell in Barcelona.
While you are relaxing in the park, you may see newlywed couples who come here to bless their marriage with a kiss. Visit the park on Valentine’s Day when local bands perform free concerts. On the same day, you and your partner may want to enter Beso más Largo, the Longest Kiss competition.
Situated in the district of Miraflores, Parque del Amor is about a 30-minute drive from Lima’s city center. Catch one of the regular buses that travel between the city and Miraflores or arrive by taxi.
Combine your visit with a gentle stroll along the Malecón. This is a promenade that winds through parks, including Parque del Amor, and gardens along the coastline of Miraflores. During your walk, you will pass numerous statues by acclaimed Peruvian artists. Watch paragliders jump from the cliffs at Parque Raimondi and follow a path down to Playa Miraflores.
