"Hmm. This is a very good property and would be excellent anywhere else in the world but standards in Greece/Crete are very high. It's a little gloomier inside photos suggest with only limited natural light. There is construction work going on literally adjacent to the property currently so expect some noise and essentially the outdoor balcony space is off-limits during the daytime. Some minor maintenance niggles. Seems a bit mean providing a coffee machine but no capsules but hey ho. This is a...

"This was by far the most unique, amazing hotel we stayed at on the island of Crete. Upon arrival we were given fresh-squeezed lemonade made from their own lemon trees. The staff was so friendly! The building is over 500 years old, and nothing like I've ever seen before. The suite we got was huge, (living room, full kitchen, dining room, and bathroom downstairs and 2 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs). We had our own private patio and a back door that led right to the pool. The town and the people...

Archipelagos Hotel

8/10 Good

"Friendly staff"

Harmony Boutique Resort - Adults only

10/10 Excellent

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the hotel was in a perfect location just across from a lovely sandy beach with clear waters. Very peaceful & the hotel and grounds were well designed & maintained. Lots of shops, restaurants close by but we were happy as we'd chosen half board to eat at the hotel. On arrival Marianna was very welcoming & friendly & explained everything to us, we were taken to our room in a golf buggy which was nice. We had a bottle of wine on arrival in our room which was perfect. The room itself was not what I was expecting it had been refurbished but furniture was old & dated. The twin showers were very spacious but not private. This in my opinion was not 5* We luckily could move to a different room the next day in the afternoon they were full so we were happy to wait. I paid for an upgraded room which was very smart, nicely furnished &much nicer It was worth the extra."

Oros Luxury Beach Resort

8/10 Good

"We had a deluxe villa with own pool. It was just a shame due to staying later in the season, we did not get the sun on our loungers and the pool was very cold. (Still tried it though!!) Suite was lovely, Breakfast was good, lots of choice. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Resort is close to main road, which was a bit annoying if sitting out. Overall though, could not fault the resort. However, walked along the nearest beach, and was very disappointed with the amount of rubbish and plastic around. Shame our tourist tax isn't helping with that!!"

Fata Morgana Studios & Apartments

8/10 Good

"Stayed in the split level rooms. Rather dated and a little overpriced . Stay in the new wing overlooking the pool and ocean for a better experience and value. We asked to change room and it wasn’t an issue. The access to a free washing machine was a great touch. Great service and friendly staff."

Hotel Kalyves Beach

10/10 Excellent

"Fantastic hotel, well positioned unfortunately the food could have been a bit hotter but luckily we only went B&B.... We have just got back to the UK ( 05/10/2026) and we was there when the worst weather they had ever experienced storms, torrential rail and wind for 7days... But hey the locals made it special and would definitely come back...."

A stunning villa on a totally private promontory

10/10 Excellent

"Villa Andromeda is exactly how it looks in the pictures and how the other reviewers have described. The road to and from the property is fine apart from a twenty metre section where you have to be especially careful - we managed fine in two normal front wheel drive manual hire cars for a party of eight. Robert has found a great team of hosts - led by Angelina who look after everything for you. They even went as far as improving that small part of the road leading to the villa for us! The location and the villa are truly amazing with the most beautiful sunset we’ve ever seen. There are plenty of lovely tavernas and restaurants nearby with lots of local supermarkets that are reasonably priced and stock so many options. So you can get the best of both worlds - complete solitude in the most beautiful setting or sample typical Greek traditional offerings. The old town in Chania is a must visit and we’d also recommend hiring a boat for half a day - we did both self drive and a captained private catamaran which were both awesome."

Neos Omalos

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is isolated close to the Samaria gorge’s trail departure. It’s perfect if you plan to visit the gorge. The hotel is a little outdated but it offers everything you need for your stay and is very affordable. The plus is the team. All of them are super nice and they make your stay unforgettable. I recommend everyone to get there just to enjoy being treated nicely in a very natural way."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Nomikiana?

The best area to stay in Nomikiana is the village centre itself, particularly for those seeking a tranquil and authentic Cretan experience.

This small, traditional village is located in the foothills, offering a quiet escape from the busier coastal resorts. The centre is characterised by its stone-built houses, narrow, winding streets, and a slower pace of life. You'll find a few local tavernas and a mini-market clustered around the main square. It's a place where you can truly relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find Nomikiana village centre ideal. It's great for enjoying quiet evenings, leisurely walks through the olive groves, and experiencing genuine Cretan hospitality.

When is the best time to go to Nomikiana?

The best time to visit Nomikiana for pleasant weather, ideal for exploring and enjoying the outdoors, is during late spring (May to early June) or early autumn (September to October).

During these months, the weather is warm and sunny, but not excessively hot, with average temperatures ranging from 20-28°C. This makes it great for hiking the local trails, visiting nearby ancient sites, or relaxing by the sea without the intense heat or larger crowds of mid-summer. You'll find lovely conditions for enjoying the natural beauty of the region.

Families travelling with children often find early autumn particularly appealing. The sea remains warm enough for swimming well into October, and the main summer holiday rush has subsided, offering a more relaxed experience at beaches and attractions.
