It was a good dinner and breakfast dinner and very clean and tidy. Private onsen was good.
My stay at Wafu-no-Yado Masuya was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the heart of Yamanouchi, this ryokan offers a peaceful retreat with authentic Japanese charm. From the moment I arrived, the staff greeted me with warm hospitality and impeccable service. Their kindness and attentiveness made me feel truly welcome.
The rooms are beautifully designed in a traditional Japanese style, complete with tatami mats and futon beds. I especially loved the private outdoor onsen.
Dinner was a highlight: a multi-course meal that showcased seasonal ingredients and exquisite presentation. Every bite was a delight, and breakfast was just as satisfying
Lovely Ryokan with both public and private hot tubs and traditional Japanese meals. Couldn't fault it even if I wanted to. Great experience in every way.
The staff were extremely gracious and hospitable. All guests should probably read up on the norms of a Royakan before staying here with dinner and breakfast included and very specific slippers for specific events. This location was very accommodating of our special meal request as vegetarians.
We got picked up by a shuttle and was delivered right to the hotel. The shuttle also took us to the train station so we could explore nearby areas. Staff was friendly and helpful and the food was great.
Our stay was incredible. The hot springs were rejuvenating, the room spacious and comfortable and the staff pleasant and helpful. We would definitely stay again if the opportunity arose. What an incredible experience.
Lovely stay. Full Japanese experience. Traditional but with modern amenities.
Lovely onsen. Traditional evening meal and breakfast. Shuttle bus to Snow monkeys included. Lovely hosts
Would highly recommend.
Our stay here in March 2025 was wonderful. The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, even picked us up from the station without prior arrangement! The food was incredible, traditional Japanese breakfast that set us up for the day and a delicious dinner which when combined with the sake and very comfortable futons ensured a great night’s sleep. Took advantage of the private Onsen which was very relaxing. However with so many public Onsen (including at the hotel) it was a bit of an indulgence! Absolutely loved this place and would come back in a heartbeat!
An excellent Ryokan experience. Wonderful traditional food and easy access to the Snow Monkeys. They serve traditional fixed menu breakfast and dinner at designated times. The onsen is open 24 hours. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful.
This was one of my favorite stays in Japan and a great value for all they offer. Our room included a private onsen bath that was beautiful and so relaxing! Our beds were raised mattress western-style, but the room was very traditional Japanese with a tatami mat sitting room and shoji screens. The food was all delicious, more than enough to eat, and served to us in a private dining room. Service was phenomenal!! The location is near the snow monkey park, Shibu Onsen, and Obuse. This was a wonderful place to stay!
We had an amazing stay at Masuya. We chose the Japanese-style room with a private onsen, which was amazing. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very spacious, clean, and beautiful. The private onsen is very nice (better than the pictures), the public onsens are also great, most of the time we had the onsens for ourselves. Dinner and breakfast were also delicious, I requested one vegetarian meal and they changed the meal accordingly. The staff was very helpful, they helped us with the train timetable and adjusted breakfast time just so we could catch the train, they also offered a shuttle to the station. I would certainly stay there again
The service is exceptional. I just can’t say enough how much they go out of their way to make you feel welcome and appreciated. The included meals are excellent for those with an adventurous spirit…truly fantastic. Also, be prepared for several courses at dinner. I left every meal quite content. I will return and highly recommend to others.
This property was as traditional as it gets. Two Onsens to bath in. Each have separate times for men and women. Provide multicourse dinner that was as traditional as you can get. The breakfast was multiple items and also a classic meal. Very good. Room didn’t have a view but it had traditional tea set up along with kimonos to wear and traditional bedding. We were there only one night so it wasn’t a big deal to not have a view. Staff was very kind and tried to be of help. We got a shuttle ride up to the base of the Monkey territory. That was helpful. Specific staff speak better English than others.
This 140 year old traditional guest house is brilliantly located in Yudanaka. Close to a ski shuttle, it is on the main onsen street where we could easily stroll past several stores and restaurants, but is just a few steps outside the Shibu Onsen town line so we could not enter the "public" onsens. That said the Masuya price was a deal for its location/superior service AND it has its own very enjoyable onsen. The Masuya's staff Sato-san, Miu-san, Kobayashi-san, to name a few are outstanding and went out of their way to make our stay experience even more special. IE they recommended we see the town's post New Years bonfire along the river. The 20 foot bonfire could easily be observed from the hotel's spacious deck but, Kobayashi-san, who spoke little english, emphasized we walk down the street, cross the bridge and go to the rivers edge. We are so happy he did as it allowed us to be with the local community and families. After short blessings and optimistic words from community leaders they handed out mikans(oranges) and cups of sake. It was one of those unplanned moments that provided a special memory. The meals at Masuya were unmatched for its unique-ness and quality at both breakfast and dinner. Tika-san and Su-san were fantastic hosts and after 4 nights, there were few repeat dishes from the chefs. The overall hotel service was consistently excellent across all employees, I wish I had taken note of everyone's names. I highly recommend this ryokan for a true experience.
We really enjoyed staying at this ryokan. The food and services were outstanding. The onsen was open 24 hours so we enjoyed hot spring at odd hours (due to the jetlag). The Snow Monkey Park is nearby and the hotel offers a free shuttle to the base of the mountain. We would definitely come back.
